What is Oracle ODI?
Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is by Oracle. It is
an ETL tool and comprehensive data integration
platform which is capable of handling high
volumes of data load and transformations and has
great performance. It can extract data from
different data sources and can perform very
complex operations and can load into different
target data stores like application databases,
data warehouse etc. Different data integration
projects can also be supported by ODI which
include but not limited to Data Warehousing and
business Intelligence, Data Consolidation and
Data Migrations, Master Data Management

What Makes ODI Different?
The main difference is in the architecture. Oracle
ODI is mainly built to transfer the
transformation work to the target data source
which evades the transformation work of middle
tier ETL engine. Here, in most of the
implementations, the ODI agent simply sends the
code to the target data server where it is
executed. ODI uses the power of the target data
source and execute the transformations which are
possible only with this architecture.

What are Knowledge Modules?
The Knowledge Modules (KMs) are generic code
templates applied to mapping and it provide
metadata from the mapping itself to produce
executable code at runtime. If we want to change
any physical implementation of the mapping, it
can be easily done by simply switching the KM. KM
modules can even be created from scratch to suit
our needs further implying its flexibility.

What is Studio?
This is where the main thing happens. The Studio
or ODI Studio is a development environment based
on Java or JDeveloper framework. Studio is first
installed on the client system and connected to
the master and work repositories to access the
ODI metadata. Here is where the development
happens.
