Title: Top Facts About Radiology

1
Top Facts About Radiology
2
What is radiology?
  • Radiology is the science of high-energy
radiation, and the study of the sources of
radiations and the physical, biologic, and
chemical effect of these radiation. Radiology
the term generally refers to diagnosis
    treatment of disease.

3
Are radiologists a doctor?
  • Yes, radiologists are in fact MDs or medical
doctors, or DOs or doctor of osteopathic
    medicine.
  • DOs at Las Vegas radiology are doctors who
specialize in diagnosis and treatment of diseases
as well as injuries using various medical imaging
    techniques including x-rays, magnetic resonance
imaging or MRI, nuclear medicine, computed
tomography or CT, ultrasound, and positron
    emission tomography or PET.

4
  • In order to become a radiologist, one needs to
graduate from an accredited medical school, pass
licensing examinations, and further complete a
residency program of not less than 4 years.
  • Radiologists often go through a fellowship
program as well, 1-2 additional years for
    specialized straining in specific sub-specialty
    of radiology, like cardiovascular radiology,
    nuclear medicine, and breast imaging.
  • For instance, in order to be qualified to
perform CT scan Las Vegas, one needs to
    subspecialize in computed tomography.

5
What role does a radiologist has in ones health
care?
  • A radiologist acts as a specialist, expert
consultant that the referring physician (or any
other doctor who has referred you to that
radiology clinic or department for testing) by
helping you choose the proper examination and
screening and interpret the results, and further
using that results in your health care.
  • Radiologists may recommend additional scans and
treatments when it is necessary. They also direct
the radiology technologists (the personnel who is
involved with operating the equipment) in
performing the exams in a proper manner.

6
What are some common radiological procedures?
  • Some of the most common and popular radiological
procedures include x-ray, CT scan, mammogram Las
Vegas, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging.

7
  • In x-ray, a kind of electro-magnetic radiation is
passed through ones body so as to create 2-D
images of a region of the body or a specific body
    part.
  • X-ray is highly useful for detection of bone or
muscle problems including cracked or broken
bones, and muscle injury. Mammogram is a very
    common form of x-ray technology.
  • CT scan can be considered a more advanced form of
x-ray that used x-ray itself in addition with
sophisticated computer technology in order to
create multiple 2-D images so as to further
create a 3-D image of the body part or region. CT
scans are used as a popular means of detecting
    heart disease, aneurysm, and cancer.

8
  • MRI or magnetic resonance imaging uses magnetic
fields to create detailed images of soft tissue,
organs, body and the other body parts. It is used
in detection of diseases related to the nervous
    system, heart, joints, and cancer.

9
How much of radiation exposure is too much?
  • No firm answer to this question is available yet.
But it is important that doctors prescribe only
what is necessary, avoiding overuse and also
using imaging procedures in a safe manner for
health care. how much radiation is enough depends
    on ones medical need.
