• 2019 is an important year for helping parents to
  immigrate to Canada. The Parent and Grandparent
  Program, gives permission to Canadian citizens
  /residents, above the 18 years of age, to sponsor
  their parents/grandparents. They can arrive in
  Canada and also provides a chance for them to
  become permanent residents.

Improvements in Parent Grandparent Program

• In 2017 Canada admitted 17,000 applicants through
  this system but in 2019 it has an aim to allow
  20,500 parents and grandparents. Furthermore,
  after increasing the number of applicants, Canada
  has adopted a fair system for selecting potential
  applicants/sponsors.
• The old system, was unfair and based on a random
  lottery, and accepted only a few lucky
  applicants. It did not consider people who waited
  for years to sponsor their relatives.  Now it is
  based on the timing of arrival basis. IRCC has
  the aim to make the application process more
  efficient through fast processing than before.

When does it reopen in 2019?

• As per IRCC, the program will open this year
  within a few weeks. The details about the program
  will be posted on social media. All applicants
  will get sufficient time to apply in the new
  system. They can also arrange the necessary
  documents on time.
• Beginning the Application
• Provide an online form showing an interest in the
  program. This is Expression of Interest form.
  Applicants get a confirmation code after handing
  over the sponsorship form. They can also use it
  later in the application process. After receiving
  notification regarding the successful
  application, apply within 60 days of receiving
  such invitation from IRCC. Also include
  supporting documents, civil status, tax records,
  and another set of documents. Additionally, the
  persons, who do not succeed in 2019, have the
  option of applying in 2020.

Quebec has a Different System

• Quebec has a different standard in the PGP. It
  also seeks proof of funds for supporting parents
  and grandparents in their stay. The applicants
  have to sign a ten-year sponsorship agreement
  with the government.
