Basant Panchami (February 10, 2019)
Hindu calendar begins with Basant Panchami and is
considered a very auspicious day for new
beginnings. It is celebrated with much fanfare
all over the country. Whether it is about
starting a new business or setting a marriage
date, Basant Panchami is considered as the most
auspicious day. It falls in the month of late
January or early February. People wear yellow
that marks yellow mustard seeds found in full
bloom in crops. People also pray to Goddess
Saraswati.

Chapchar Kut (First Week of March)

Aoling Festival (April 1-6, 2019)
This festival is celebrated by Konyak tribe of
Mon District in Nagaland. The festival marks a
lot of fun and merriment. The dancers don their
festival traditional wear and dance, sing, eat
and drink through the day and night. They consume
rice beer especially prepared for the festival
and have a gala time. It marks sowing of seeds in
the crops.

Mopin Festival (April 5-8, 2019)
This is a popular harvest festival celebrated in
Arunachal Pradesh. As part of this festival,
people of this state worship Goddess Mopin and
pray her to bring prosperity and ward off evil
spirits. Popir, the folk dance of the state is
performed by the womenfolk of Arunachal Pradesh.

Vasant Navratri (April 6-14, 2019)
India celebrates two Navratri every year. One of
them is Vasant Navratri which marks the beginning
of Hindu Lunisolar calendar and is considered as
Holy Nine Nights of Spring. The festival
celebrates different forms of Shakti and
worshipped across North India seeking blessings
of divine mother Goddess. The last day of the
festival marks the birthday of Lord Rama.

Gudi Padwa (April 6, 2019)
It is a popular festival celebrated in the state
of Maharashtra on the first day of Vasant Navami.
The festival marks a spectacular parade that
starts from Girgaon in Mumbai. It is interesting
to watch women wearing sarees riding motorbikes.
