Advantages of waterborne coatings over solvent
based coatings are excellent adhesion, low

abrasion. Additives are required in waterborne
coatings to alter their rheological properties.

crosslinking among resins used in waterborne

resistance against corrosion, chemicals, and
humidity. Furthermore, they improve the drying
time and hardness of waterborne coating.
Waterborne coating additives serve a wide range
of functions such as wetting dispersion of
pigments and resin, defoaming of foams produced
during production and laying up of paints
coatings. They also serve the funtion of a
surfactant for improvement of surface tension,
deaeration of air bubbles produced during
production and lay-up process, imparts
hydrophobicity, and improve rheological
properties of waterborne paints coatings.
