• Rublev Colours pigments are made directly from
  mineral and organic sources. Our geologist, who
  has many years experience selecting minerals for
  pigments, travels to distant locations, and hand
  selects mineral ores for use in our pigments. We
  process the minerals by pulverizing, grinding and
  levigating for use as fine artists pigments.

Azurite 10g
Azurite is a natural carbonate of copper usually
described as a bright blue or sometimes as a
greenish blue. Azurite varies in masstone color
from deep blue to pale blue with a greenish
undertone depending on such factors as the purity
of the mineral and the grade (particle size) of
the pigment. This fine grade (average 25 micron
particle size) of azurite is a bright blue with a
greenish undertone.

Lazurite is a rare blue mineral found with other
minerals in a rock called lapis lazuli. We buy
select pieces from one of the oldest lazurite
mines in Badakhshan, Afghanistan. Pieces are
finely ground and levigated to obtain the highest
purity.

Vivianite 10g
Vivianite is a rare mineral of hydrated iron
phosphate that exhibits an intense dark blue
color. Our vivianite comes from bogs around the
Moscow region, and has a dark blue masstone,
similar to indigo, with a reddish blue undertone.

Blue Bice 100g
Blue bice is the name given to a pale blue
artificial basic copper carbonate with
approximately the same chemical composition as
azurite. Blue bice was used in watercolors and
distemper during the 17th and 18th centuries. Our
blue bice is made according to an English recipe
of the 18th century.
