  The word "Diwali" means glowing lines. This is a
  festival of lights,which Hindus celebrate
  joyfully that is why diwali is One of the most
  popular festivals of Hinduism.

• During diwali people fill oil and light up small
  oil lamps called diyas indian people decorate
  with diyas in front of their house .On Diwali
  these things are also done like-Diya and
  lighting, home decoration, shopping, fireworks,
  puja (prayers) and many more.

• It is believed that on this day Rama returned to
  his people after 14 years of exile during which
  he fought and won a battle against the demons and
  the demon king, Ravana.
