Take Your Retina Problems Seriously!
Arohi Eye Hospital
Our eyes are one of the most precious parts of
our body the tiny organ that helps us see the
big world around us! While these organs are so
tiny, they are also so very complicated with all
the various parts connected with one another,
each performing their own task individually, yet
collaboratively. Although each individual part
of the eye has its own important task to do, the
retina plays one of the most significant roles by
receiving light from the lens, converting it
into neural signals, and sending them to the
brain for visual recognition. The retina is thus
responsible for processing a picture by detecting
the light intensity and colour of the objects
around us. And so, any kind of damage to the
retina may mean loss of receiving or processing
light, thus causing loss of vision, blurred
vision, or colourless vision. This means that
with retinal problems, you may not be able to
perform the simplest of tasks like reading or
driving, or at the worst, you may not be able to
see at all!
Let us take a look at the various retinal
problems that you may encounter so that if you
find any of the symptoms, you can get in touch
with a specialist immediately and have your eyes

treated. Arohi Eye Hospital is the best retina
specialist in Mumbai you can approach for any
retina related problems. Retinal tear Retinal
tear, as the name itself says, is when there is a
tear in the retina and this tear allows fluid
to enter beneath the retina to further cause
retinal detachment. The common symptoms of a
retinal tear include light flashes and floaters
and worst of all, vision loss. Retinal tear can
be caused due to a variety of reasons like
myopia, thinning of retina, cataracts, history of
eye trauma, or any other previous eye surgery
gone wrong. There are two ways in which a
retinal tear can be treated laser
photocoagulation and cryopexy. Retinal
detachment This is a medical condition in which
the retinal tissue pulls away from its original
position. It may be caused with ageing, or due to
health ailments like diabetes. Retinal
detachment may cause brief light flashes, sudden
increase of floaters, dense shadow in the
peripheral or central vision, a curtain like
feeling over the field of vision, central visual
loss, or complete blindness. To avoid any such
harsh outcomes, get yourself immediately checked
if you experience any of the first few symptoms.
Depending upon your condition, you may be
treated with cryopexy, laser photocoagulation,
scleral buckle surgery, pneumatic retinopexy, or
vitrectomy.

Retinal swelling As the name suggests, retinal
swelling is when the retina swells up, which is
caused due to an abnormal blister of fluid in the
layers of the macula. This causes distorted
images, making it difficult to see clearly. But,
if left untreated, it may lead to permanent
vision loss with the increased leakage from
damaged retinal blood vessels or growth of
abnormal blood vessels in the deep retina.
Retinal swelling can be caused due to a variety
of conditions like diabetes, macular
degeneration, scar tissue on the retinal
surface, etc. The treatment will also vary
depending upon the individual condition, with
the most common treatment procedures being eye
drops, injections, or surgery. Each of these
procedures can effectively decrease the amount of
fluid leaking from the abnormal blood
vessels. Diabetic retinopathy Diabetic
retinopathy is a diabetes complication that
affects the eyes, caused by damage to the blood
vessels in the retina. The condition can develop
in patients of diabetes. The longer one has
diabetes, and the less controlled the blood sugar
is, the more likely you are to develop this eye
condition. The most common symptoms include
floaters, dark spots, blurred vision, fluctuating
vision, dark or empty areas in your vision,
impaired colour vision, or vision loss.
Depending upon the individual condition, a
patient may be prescribed injections, laser
treatment, or surgery.
