How Consultancy can help Artisanal Food?

  • About Artisanal Food-
  • Food artisans produce foods and edible foodstuffs
that are not mass produced, but rather made by
hand. These include cheeses, breads and baked
goods, charcuterie and other foods that involve
    preservation or fermentation, home preservation
or canning processes, and fruit preserves, cured
    meats, beverages, oils, and vinegars.
    Fermentation or otherwise controlling the
    preservation environment for beneficial
microorganisms can be utilized for vinegars,
cheeses, cured meats, wine, oolong tea, kimchi
and other examples. An artisan food item is
usually developed and produced over a long period
of time and consumed relatively close to where
    the food is created. (BBGV22720)
  •
  • Challenges faced by Food Artisans-
  •
  • Other players dont mandate the state of organic
certification as performed by the USDA.
  • Other players use Organic product even if they
    use automation.
  • Changing climate cycle and natural disasters cost
    a lot
  • Quality of products has undergone distinguishable
    change.
  • New players use machines and modern technologies
for production due to lack of proper knowledge
and experience. Senior craftsmen use traditional
    technologies hence creating higher quality
    products
  • Social media play a vital role on handicraft
    product promotions.
  • Now online marketing and stores support
handicraft product sales, but compared to other
products, the role of digital marketing is very
    low

  • In spite of having diversified products, some
part of Indian market is still untapped and
    market is price sensitive.
  • Products are high priced in big and metro cities,
which are beyond, reach of people belonging
    middle and lower middle class.
  • Food producers have to compete on price, quality
    and delivery for different segments.
  • There is poor promotion for Artisanal food
    products in national market.
  • There is lack of awareness about new traditions
among craftsmen and there is need of
    technological support and training.
  • Impact of Covid-19 on Food Artisans-
  • The situation for individual artisans and craft
organisations across the country is becoming
tougher by the day, Big orders are getting
cancelled, local markets are drying up and raw
material are piling up. The handicraft sector
could suffer a loss of ?8000-?10,000 crores due
to the pandemic. There are over 31.44 lakh
households engaged in weaving and allied
activities These local artisans are not visible
like migrant workers. They are being neglected
and their livelihood is in danger. This
necessitates a critical examination of how the
coronavirus pandemic impacts the local artisans,
how fractured supply chains and crippled markets
dwindle their earnings, how are they evolving to
meet new challenges, and how e-commerce platforms
can be leveraged to boost sales of handicraft
    items.

  • How consultancy can help in this situation?
  • The businesses are suffering due to Covid-19 and
this is no different for Artisan food sector.
Artisanal food business mostly works hilly spots
or tourism and historic places. But amid the
lockdown all these places are closed which has
led to decrease in revenue flow and losses. So,
the question is how can a consultancy help the
handicraft sector? The answer is by acting as
platform provider where all your products will be
marketed. A cost-effective marketing can be done
through prospect marketing. A prospect is someone
who has a need, desire and/or interest in what
you offer. By prospect marketing handicraft
businesses can reach prospects efficiently, which
in turn leads to increased customer base, brand
awareness and reduced marketing cost which leads
to increased revenue, demand, and innovation.
Some of the online strategies/tools are used to
reach prospects are-Email marketing, Google Ads,
social media marketing like Facebook, LinkedIn
    which provides custom filter.
