Oklahoma is a state located in the South Central

In the year 2013-2014, the state ranks 10th in
position for the drug overdose death rate among
the 50 states. The state ranks in the number
1 position among the 50 states of America for
abusing prescription pain pills and about 5 of
people who were above the age of 12 abusing pain
pills on a regular basis. For the rate of
substance abuse, the state ranks 2nd in position
with 11.9 of people were abusing some substances
in the year 2012. Higher rates on alcohol
and drug abuse have been observed in the rural
cities of Oklahoma such as Okmulgee, Eufaula, and
Muskogee than the other cities in the state.
The city acts as a major distribution route for
heroin supplies from Mexico. In 2013, the
state Oklahoma passed legislation which allowed
to dispense naloxone for trained family members,
friends, and first responders, enabling them to
administer this life-saving overdose reversal
medication when they witness an overdose.
For nonmedical purposes, about 17,000 adults who
age between 12 - 17 in the year 2013-2014, it is
exactly around 5.3 of the age group according to
the report by SAMHSA. Whereas the use of
pain killers among teens has been decreased since
2010. But the teen's drug usage in the state is
higher than the national average of 4.7
percent. About 200,000 people in the state
who age more than 12 were dependent on alcohol in
the year 2013 to 2014. Around 74,000 people
who age more than 12 were dependent or abusing
illegal drugs in the state from 2013 to 2014
according to the Behavioral Health Barometer
reports by SAMHSA in 201 5. Among those who
need treatment for abusing illicit drugs between
2007 and 2014, only 15 of them received
treatment in the state and the average count is
about 12,000 people per year. In the fall of
2017, the Department of Mental Health and
Substance Abuse Services, Oklahoma announced that
they were cutting back outpatient mental
health(issues) and substance abuse programs. This
eliminated or reduced these forms of treatment
for 189,000 residents of the state, which
includes the treatment for opioid use
disorders. Around 30 meth labs were seized
by the law enforcement agencies in the year 2017.
Majorly on the meth labs which were located in
the northeastern portion of the state, including
Tulsa County.
