Optometrist
  • Optometrist are primary health care specialists
trained to examine the eyes to detect defects in
vision, signs of injury, ocular diseases or
abnormality and problems with general health.
  • Optometrists are self-reliant superior healthcare
specialists, who are licensed to detect,
diagnose, and provide treatment for diseases and
disorders related to the eyes and the visual
    system.

    may include the following assessments
  • Medical history, including general health and
    family history
  • Eye health
  • External eye, including eyelids and eyelashes
  • Colour perception
  • Eye conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts and
    macular degeneration.

How do I prepare for an optometrist eye test
for glasses?
  • If you have prescription glasses, bring them with
you to your optometrist visit, even if you
purchased them from Optical Superstore, or they
are broken. Optometrists find it useful to read
your current prescription as a starting point for
evaluating your vision and help determine which
lens type may best suit your lifestyle and
    prescription needs.

5
How Do I Prepare For An Optometrist Eye
Test If I Wear Contact Lenses?
  • If you wear contact lenses and are having an
eye test, remove them two hours before your
optometrist appointment. If youre having a
contact lens exam, wear your contact lenses as
usual so your optometrist can check your vision
and the fit of your lenses. If you have worn
contact lenses previously, bring the box they
came in or the prescription. This will help the
optometrist evaluate your eye care needs. If you
wear prescription glasses and contact lenses,
    bring both.

6
Medicare information
  • For most Australians an eye test with an
optometrist is paid for by Medicare, so please
bring your Medicare card. If you have Private
Health Insurance, please bring your health
insurance card for claiming prescription glasses
or spectacles or prescription contact lenses.
