Title: Inpatient vs. Outpatient Rehabilitation

  • Inpatient This is residential care, so patients
in these programs live on-site at the rehab
    facility with others in treatment.
  • Outpatient Patients are allowed to continue
living at home or in another offsite location,
such as a sober living facility.

3
  • Inpatient These programs take several weeks to
complete. At Adelante Recovery Center, inpatient
rehab programs run from 4 to 12 weeks.
  • Outpatient Shorter than inpatient because it is
less intensive and does not include detox. Takes
a few days to a week, depending on the program.

4
  • Inpatient Because this type of treatment is more
intensive, it tends to have a higher success rate
    than other programs.
  • Outpatient Success rates are generally lower
    than inpatient.
  • Outpatient can be very effective for a certain
type of client. When a person who needs inpatient
care chooses an outpatient program, however,
their chances of success may suffer.

5
  • Inpatient Clients in these programs may be
triggered by certain people, places, living
situations or personal problems that they cant
easily escape. Inpatient rehab minimizes those
triggers so they can focus on recovery.
  • Outpatient These clients live and work in a
normal environment, so they face more triggers. A
good candidate for outpatient will be capable of
    navigating most triggers fairly well.

6
  • Inpatient Typically higher than outpatient due
to longer duration, greater intensity, and living
    expenses.
  • Outpatient Treatment costs are lower, as the
programs are shorter and do not include detox or
    living expenses.
  • Although inpatient may cost more at the outset,
choosing an insufficient program may leave you
needing more treatment (and further costs) in the
    future.

7
  • Inpatient substance abuse treatment is ideal for
anyone who needs significant help to escape
dependency and/or heal the issues underlying
    their addiction.
  • Individuals who are actively dealing with
addiction and want a safe, supervised place to
start over and focus on recovery
  • Those who have previously completed treatment but
    have repeatedly relapsed or struggled

8
  • Outpatient rehab programs are ideal for clients
who are not actively struggling with dependency
    but who require additional help.
  • Individuals who have previously completed
inpatient treatment and want additional support
    to continue their work
  • Individuals with relatively minor addictions who
need a moderate degree of assistance to avoid
    substance use
