Introduction
  • Insects, disease and vertebrates cause major
production and economic losses in agricultural
industry worldwide. Detection of insect infection
in plants and trees is critical for sustainable
    agriculture.
  • An oil palm tree (Elaeis guineensis) is the most
important commodity crop in Malaysia. It was
first introduced to Malaysia as an ornamental
plant in 1870. Since 1960, planted area had
increased at a rapid pace. In 2014, 4.9 million
hectares were planted with palm tree.
  • The yield losses in oil palm plantations caused
mainly by disease and insects (pest). The
bagworms pest is a main insect affecting the oil
palm plantation in Malaysia and cause 40 of
yield losses in next two years when trees
    attracted.

diseases of oil palm, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian

Introduction
  • The pest detection is important phases in oil
palm plantations for executing proper management
strategies to prevent the development and the
spread of diseases and pests. Detection done
using traditional methods and remote sensing
    technology.
  • Recently unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) Base
provides an opportunity to obtain qualitative and
quantitative information on large areas of
vegetation in a non-destructive manner hence it
becomes a possible solution to the pest detecting
    especially the bagworms infestation.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
  • Bagworms pest are reported as serious pests of
oil palm in Malaysia, which cause damage by
defoliating the oil palm tree. Severe defoliation
causes reductions in photosynthesis and fruit
production, resulting in yield losses about 40.
  • Recently, the emergence call in different part of
oil palm plantations around Malaysia to detect
this insect using remote sensing technology.

OBJECTIVES
  • The main objective of this research is to develop
technique base on UAV- images for pre-visual
detection of bagworms pest in oil palm
