Things you should know about Pediatric Spine
Surgery
  • As a parent, we always dream of having kids who
are physically fit and can play all day long. But
everyone is not blessed with healthy wards. Many
children are born with various kinds
of deformities. Few develop at their birth stage,
few develop during their early childhood days,
and few even develop during their teen years.
  • One of the most
painful deformities which children face is
Scoliosis. So, you must be wondering what is
Scoliosis and how it affects children.

What is Scoliosis and Facts you should know?
  • Scoliosis is a disorder in which there is an
abnormal curve in the spine. This disorder mostly
happens to children and it disrupts the daily
activity of a child. In this type of disorder,
the spin looks curved from the side but from the
    front, it looks straight.
  • The curve which makes the spine bend forward is
commonly called Kyphosis. Similarly, if the curve
is bent towards the back then it is called
    Lordosis.
  • In Scoliosis, the angle of the curve ranges from
10 to more than 50 degrees. the angle of the
curve on the spine determines the severity of the
    disorder.

What is Scoliosis and Facts you should know?
  • Young girls are prone to this disorder more than
boys. It is estimated that girls contract this
disorder twice the number of times than boys.
Scoliosis can be seen at any age, but the most
common age when it disorder occurs is after the
    age of 10.
  • Now you must be wondering where does this
disorder occurs? Well, after a lot of research
the exact reason for the cause of Scoliosis is
not found out, but experts presume it is more of
a hereditary disorder. Therefore, someone who has
this type of disorder can expect that his/her
    children will also get Scoliosis.

5
Is Scoliosis painful?
  • All types of Scoliosis are not painful. You may
not even know that your ward is suffering from
this disorder, because the curving of the spine
happens very slowly, and people often miss them.
Only when you go for a test or screening of
overall health, that time only experts can spot
    this type of disorder.
  • But there are a few types of Scoliosis that are
painful. Few Scoliosis causes back pain, rib
    pain, abdominal pain etc.

What is the treatment for Scoliosis?
The treatment of Scoliosis depends on how severe
the spine is curved. One can get Scoliosis,
treated by 3 ways- Observation, surgery or
bracing. Depending on how bad the curve is, the
following treatments are decided by the doctor.
For people who are suffering from severe
Scoliosis, bracing and observation is not at all
an apt treatment. For severe cases, surgery is
the only option. The treatment is also
determined by examining the physical maturity of
the child. But there is no doubt that Pediatric
Spine Surgery is one of the best treatments for
Scoliosis. If you suspect that your ward is
suffering from Scoliosis, then you should
immediately get a check-up done and get it
treated before it worsens.
