The Post-COVID Classroom: What Will Change?

Description:

The pandemic has made us realize the importance of the outdoors and interaction with people, especially how important it is for the all-round growth of children to have in-person social interaction with their peers. No matter how effective online education is, children need to spend an adequate amount of time in the company of others for healthy growth - The traditional classroom setting is a perfect example of that as it helps to promote camaraderie among students. With schools reopening, what are the changes we are most likely to see from the safety point-of-view of students and staff from the deadly virus? Let’s have a look. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

OVERVIEW
  • The year 2020 has seen everyone getting locked up
within the confines of their homes to avoid the
deadly virus. This, in turn, has made us realize
the importance of the outdoors and interaction
with people, especially how important it is for
the all-round growth of children to have
in-person social interaction with their peers. No
matter how effective online education is,
children need to spend an adequate amount of time
in the company of others for healthy growth - The
traditional classroom setting is a perfect
example of that as it helps to promote
camaraderie among students. As everyone awaits
for the schools to reopen, what are the changes
we are most likely to see from the safety
point-of-view of students and staff from the
deadly virus? Lets have a look

3
PROPER VENTILATION
  • A wise lesson learnt from COVID-19 is that
air-conditioned closed rooms are not ideal for
all age groups including children. Naturally
ventilated rooms where sunlight can enter are
healthier as they help in preventing infections
and keep the room fresh for long. So now
classrooms and campuses where students and staff
spend most of their time need to have proper
ventilation to ensure a fresh infection-free
    environment.

4
SOCIAL DISTANCING
  • Students, teachers, and staff members are advised
to strictly adhere to social distancing norms. In
the classrooms, students must be made to sit at a
distance of 6-ft. from each other. Larger windows
and additional doorways can be added to keep the
infections at bay and to meet the set hygienic
    standards.

5
SANITIZATION STATIONS
  • Proper sanitization of the school/college
premises must be done regularly. Sanitizing
stations must be installed at every entry exit
points of the school and classrooms, and must
    have adequate hand wash facilities.

6
OUTDOOR LEARNING
  • For safe and fun learning, outdoor spaces can
also be created and utilized where children can
learn in small groups. COVID has made us realize
that in-person group learning and meetings are
vital for the development of children it
imparts them with essential life-shaping skills
    like teamwork, camaraderie, effective
    communication, empathy, spontaneity, etc.

7
TRAINING OF TEACHERS
  • During this pandemic, we saw how problematic it
was for teachers to transition from offline to
online learning. Some tech-savvy teachers could
do that smoothly while many faced uphill
challenges. Hence, post-COVID, we are much likely
to observe a spike in the tech training of
teachers for effective online teaching. This will
benefit the school in the long run as the future
model of education is going to be a hybrid of
    offline and online learning.
