Varicose Veins
  • Any vein might become varicose. Varicose veins is
a very common problem where veins close to your
    skin are swollen and twisted.
  • The more standing and walking upright increases
the pressure in the veins of your lower body and
it damaged veins in your legs.
  • Varicose veins are a common condition caused by
    damaged vein walls and valves.
  • Varicose veins may form whenever blood pressure
    increases inside your veins.

Causes Of Varicose Veins
  • Weak or damaged valves could lead to varicose
veins. Some condition that puts excessive
pressure on the legs or abdomen can lead to
    varicose veins.
  • The most common conditions which inducers
    pressure are
  • Pregnancy
  • Obesity
  • Standing for long periods
  • Chronic constipation
  • Tumors
  • A previous leg injury
  • Genetic Problems

5
Diagnosis For varicose veins
  • To diagnose varicose veins, you may need an
ultrasound test to see if the valves in your
veins are functioning normally or if there's any
    evidence of a blood clot.
  • In this noninvasive test, a technician runs a
small hand-held device (transducer), about the
size of a bar of soap, against your skin over the
area of your body being examined.
  • The transducer transmits images of the veins in
your legs to a monitor, so a technician and your
    doctor can see them.
  • Your doctor may also ask you to describe any pain
    and aching in your legs.

Varicose Veins Treatment
  • The goals of varicose vein treatment are to
    reduce symptoms and prevent complications.
  • Home treatment is typically the first approach.
You can do below things to ease your symptoms
  • Wear compression stockings.
  • Prop up (elevate) your legs.
  • Avoid long periods of sitting or standing.
  • Get plenty of exercise.
  • There are some procedures that can treat varicose
veins and keep the varicose veins from getting
    worse.
  • Laser treatment.
  • Ligation and stripping.
  • Phlebectomy.
  • Radiofrequency treatment.
  • Sclerotherapy.
  • Endoscopic vein surgery.

7
Risk factors
  • Here are a few factors that increases your risk
    of developing varicose veins
  • Age - Aging causes wear and tear on the valves in
your veins that help regulate blood flow.
  • Sex - Hormonal changes before your period or
during pregnancy or menopause might be a factor
because female hormones tend to relax vein walls.
Hormone treatments, such as birth control pills,
might increase your risk of varicose veins.
  • Pregnancy - During pregnancy, the volume of blood
in your body increases. This change supports the
growing fetus, but also can produce an
unfortunate side effect enlarged veins in your
    legs.
  • Family history - If other family members had
varicose veins, there's a greater chance you will
    too.
  • Obesity - Being overweight puts added pressure on
    your veins.
  • Standing or sitting for long periods of time -
Your blood doesn't flow as well if you're in the
    same position for long periods.
