1
A Guide to Hardwood Floor Installation and
Refinishing
  • There is a very important reason why people opt
for hardwood floor installation and refinishing.
A hardwood specialist maryland wood floor does
not only give a touch of class and sophistication
to the home but also adds to the curb value of
the property. For the uninitiated about hardwood
flooring, the refinishing part is as critical as
the installation and with proper care, your
hardwood floor will last for ages.

2
  • Hardwood floor installation
  • First, a quick look at the method of hardwood
flooring installation that you should choose.
  • The popular method of glue-down or adhesive is
done for engineered flooring where the hardwood
is typically clicked together and secured with
glue. Next is engineered wood where the
installation method is the click-lock or floating
one. The panels are clicked and attached to block
and keep out moisture. This method can only be
used where the sub floor is cement or tile. For
solid wood, hardwood floor installation is
difficult. The boards have to be uniformly nailed
down to a wood sub floor. Since it is tricky,
call experienced contractors for hardwood floor
installation and refinishing to do it for you.

3
  • When installing hardwood flooring, always start
from the longest and straightest wall and put the
boards perpendicular to the floor joints. Let the
hardwood acclimatize for at least 5 days in the
room before installation. The humidity level in
the room should be between 30 to 55 percent while
    the temperature 65-to-75-degree Fahrenheit. The
sub floor should be strong enough, preferably
3/4in CDX plywood, 3/4in OSB, or a minimum of
    5/8in CDX flooring.

4
  • Keep these factors in mind for hardwood flooring
    and installation.
  • Hardwood floor installation and refinishing both
    go together and non-maintenance after
installation will see your precious investment
going to waste. With time, hardwood flooring can
get scratched and become dull, but unlike other
floorings, a good refinish job will bring the
wood floor back to life. Hardwood flooring can
take about 10 to 12 full sanding and refinishing
jobs during its lifetime and engineered flooring
about once or twice depending on the thickness of
    the hardwood veneer.
  • If you have taken up hardwood floor installation
and refinish in gas a DIY activity, there are two
    levels of refinishing hardwood floors.

5
  • The first is buffing and this one is not
difficult. If the surface is lightly scratched
without going deep down, the topcoat can be
restored with buffing. A floor buffing tool with
a series of grits has to be rented for the job.
Once finished the dust and dirt between each grit
can be vacuumed away. Apply a water-based finish
or polyurethane floor finish to restore life to
the wood. The other is sanding which can
completely restore old, damaged flooring. You can
even change the color of the hardwood with a
stain. Rent a sander for the job.
  • Follow this guide for hardwood floor installation
    and refinishing.
