India Planning to trade 50 billion bilateral
trade with Indonesia by 2025, as the figure has
already reached 20 billion last year. India and
Indonesia have agreed in 2021 to double their
efforts to boost bilateral trade to USD 50
billion by 2025, PM Narendra Modi said today
after holding comprehensive talks with President
Joko Widodo.

Indonesia is looking forward at increasing the
spices trade from India that included cloves,
nutmeg, pepper, vanilla etc. Indonesia always
sees India as a good investment destination and
looking at a comprehensive economic partnership
for the mutual benefit of the two
countries. Kerala state of India also offers
good opportunities to build trade ties with
Indonesia especially in the sectors of tourism
promotion, spices production, furniture exports
which is having a huge growth potential. Accordi
ng to Indonesia Trade Data, Indonesian exports to
India consists of textiles, electronic goods,
footwear, and sawn timber, while chemicals,
pharmaceuticals, and motor vehicles, automotive
are the major imports from India to
Indonesia. Besides, in 2021 Indonesian companies
have significantly invested in the food
processing sector in India. According to
Indonesias Central Statistics Agency (ICSA),
trade between the Indonesia and India in 2017
was USD 12.9 billion. It rose 29.7 per cent to
USD 18.13 billion in 2018 with Indonesias
exports data to India reaching USD 14.08 billion
and its imports from India standing at USD 4.05
billion in 2018.

In a joint statement issued by both leaders, the
two countries said they have agreed to work
intensively for the early conclusion of the
Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and
reiterated that it needs to be comprehensive,
fair and balanced with benefit to all member
states. The two leaders of both nations also
instructed officials to optimize the cooperation
between ASEAN and India for establishing a
sustainable and mutually beneficial trade
relations between both countries. They
underscored the important role palm oil plays in
Indonesias export to India and in Indias
consumer preference and growing consumption.
Both leaders agreed to address all issues related
to obstacles to trade and investment in palm oil
products and industries, the joint statement
said.

a preferential trade agreement (PTA) between
India and Chile are in the final stages and both
the countries would include about 400 more
products under the pact with an aim to boost
economic ties, an official said.

The two countries had signed a preferential trade
agreement on March 8, 2006, and it came into
force from August 2007. In 2016, they expanded
the scope of the agreement by including more
products. Currently about 2,000 goods are covered
