1
Video Call Interview
2
Overview
  • Many firms begin the interview process by calling
a prospective employee to explain the job offer,
discover if the individual is a good fit, and
measure his or her interest in the role.
  • Here are few tips to ace any video interview -

3
Prepare Like You Would for an In-Person Interview
  • It doesn't imply your interview isn't real just
because it's taking place through Skype (or
    another platform). Aside from travel
arrangements, you must prepare in the same manner
as if you were going into the office.
  • It also involves doing your homework on the
company and the job, practising typical interview
questions, and thinking of questions to ask your
    interviewer in return.
  • Your interviewer is still searching for someone
with whom they can imagine themselves working and
who is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the
position they're applying forbe prepared to
demonstrate why you're the right person for the
    job.

4
Dress to Impress
  • When dressing for a video interview practice ,
you should dress as if you were going to an
in-person interview at the same firm. (And yes,
    that includes the entire body.)
  • Although it's reasonable to want to be less
formal because you're in your own house, it might
give the incorrect impression about your
    enthusiasm in the position.
  • It is advised that getting dressed for an hour
won't hurt, but not getting dressed may.

5
Test Your Tech
  • Reduce technical issues by practising with the
same platform, internet connection, and gear
you'll need for your interview ahead of time.
  • Make sure you can hear and be heard, as well as
see and be seen, by having a buddy video chat
    with you.
  • Take some time to get to know the software and
make sure you understand the basics, especially
how to mute and unmute it.

6
Set Up Your Shot
  • Choose a peaceful location and position yourself
in front of the most neutral background possible,
such as a blank wall or a room devoid of
    distracting clutter or décor.
  • Make sure you're properly illuminated (natural
light is preferable) and that the light source is
behind your computer or phone rather than behind
    you.
  • If you must use your phone, prop it up instead of
    holding it in your hand.

7
Practice Your Video Interview Skills Ahead of Time
  • Arrange for a mock interviews with a friend or a
career counsellor who can assist you identify any
    red flags.
  • It is recommended to record your practice. You'll
be able to tell if you're making eye contact,
fumbling with papers, or having bad posture later
on, and you'll be able to make adjustments
    accordingly.
  • Answer questions in practise the same way you
would in a real interview, particularly when
discussing important aspects of your background.

8
Pay Attention to How You Sound, Too
  • Take notice of how quickly you talk, how you
pause, and the tone and pitch of your voice
during practise, and ask the person with whom
you're practising whether any of these factors
make it difficult to hear or understand you.
  • In case of a bad connection, make sure to talk
clearly and at a fair pace while remaining
    natural.
  • Because there is less body language in a video
interview, you want your speech to convey how you
feel about what you're saying. So, make sure you
sound excited when discussing the things youre
    passionate about.

9
Write Out a Few NotesBut Refer to Them as Little
as Possible
  • Only have a few brief notes in front of you, and
only peek at them once in a while. Not entire
replies, but essential figures and other tiny
    bits should be written down.
  • A huge reason someone decides to hire you is
because they feel like you made a connection
during the interview, which can be hard to do if
    youre distracted.
  • If you want to have a few scribbled notes on hand
for your interview, make sure you have them out
throughout practise. Not only will this show you
whether or not you can utilise them without
disturbing the discussion, but the more you read
them, the less you'll need to refer to them.
