Chiropractic Care for Fall Activities
  • Fall brings crisp weather and it is a favorite
time of year for many. These pro-chiropractic
tips for fall will let you enjoy the season
    without worrying about repercussions.

3
Love Leaves from Afar
  • Fall is when trees shed most of their leaves so
you will most likely pick up the rake or lift
heavy bags of lawn clippings when cleaning your
yard. However, as you do that, try and avoid
bending to pick up leaves or lifting items that
are too heavy. Instead, rake leaves onto a tarp
and haul away without bending. Rake as many
leaves as you can onto the tarp and pull them to
the dumpsite. Doing this will take the pressure
off of your back resulting in less risk of injury.

4
Take Breaks
  • Since fall is filled with a variety of activities
and cooler weather, you could find yourself going
through long hours without ever taking a break.
While at times it might allow you to finish some
activities quicker, it might also result in less
productivity and a health risk. Avoid the urge to
jump from task to task. Take a break whenever
possible so as to rejuvenate your strength.

5
Warm-Up
  • Before you start an activity like raking your
entire yard, take a 10-minute walk to get your
muscles moving. Most people encourage stretches,
but experts have claimed that stretches may
sometimes do more harm than good. Do not take
this lightly, this is perhaps the most practical
    of these chiropractic tips.

6
Prepare for Pumpkins
  • As cooler weather enters the scene, most
experience a feeling of excitement. The many
    must-do favorites include chili cook-offs,
hayrides, and corn mazes. However, for most
families, pumpkin picking and hiking remain at
the top of the list. Both of these activities can
    cause back pain.
  • Selecting a pumpkin from your favorite pumpkin
patch is always exciting. Many families choose to
purchase more than just one. More often than not,
you may prefer a larger pumpkin (or two) which
can be heavy. Chiropractors suggest the following
to protect the back when heading to the patch

7
Prepare for Pumpkins
  • ? Take a wagon- Carrying a wagon (or something
with wheels) can help prevent you from hauling
the heavy load across the patch
  • ? Lift with the legs- This requires bending at
the knees, rather than at the waist
  • ? Let someone help- Although you may not think
you need help, it is wise to allow others to help
    lift the heavier pumpkins

8
Handle Hiking
  • With the scorching summer heat behind us and the
beauty of fall beginning to show, hiking begins
to gain steam among friends and families. It is
important to be prepared prior to begin your
outdoor adventure. Although hiking can be fun and
relaxing, it can also be the culprit of back pain
or ankle sprains. Chiropractors suggest you
should make certain to pack light, using the
following tips to protect the back

9
Handle Hiking
  • ? Choose a good backpack- It is important to
carry a backpack with two wide, padded shoulder
straps to even out the load.
  • ? Wear comfy shoes- It is vital to wear shoes
that are already broken in and comfy. Making
certain your feet are comfortable can prevent
strain on the back from an unnatural stride.
  • ? Stretch before the hike- Any time you are
preparing to be physically active, it is
necessary to warm up the body to help prevent
    injury.

10
Handle Hiking
  • ? Wear Good Footwear- If you have rolled,
sprained, or broken an ankle in the past, it
makes sense to wear a tall boot or even pair it
with an ankle brace to provide additional
    support.
  • As you check these items off of your fall
activities list, make sure to take the
appropriate measures to protect your back from
    pain.
