ABOUT UNIVERSITY
Mangalore University is an autonomous
interdisciplinary public institution of higher
education. Moreover, it is located in the
educational hub of Mangalore, that is, Konaje.
Furthermore, the academic jurisdiction of
Mangalore University extends to South Canara,
Udupi, as well as Coorg (Kodagu). Besides this,
the premier institution is a major centre for
advanced academic studies and research. In

University is one the youngest universities in

HISTORY
Initially, the University of Mysore had its
jurisdiction over the South Canara. However,
there was a growing demand to set up a local
university in the nearby area. For this reason,
the district administration established a
regional Post Graduate Centre as a part of Mysore
University. As time went by, the students
demanded the status of a separate university. As
a result, Mangalore University was established on
10 September 1980. On the whole, Mangalore
University history relates to the overall
development of the local/regional area.

INFRASTRUCTURE
Undoubtedly, Mangalore University has a
world-class campus with the state of art
infrastructure facilities. Moreover, the majority
of the campus of Mangalore University is placed
at Konaje. As a matter of fact, the Mangalore
University campus, Mangalagangothri stands 20
kilometres far away from Mangalore city.
Furthermore, the college sits at the top of the
hill overlooking the Arabian Sea on one side and
the Western Ghats on the other. In addition to
this, the key facilities on the campus include a
well-equipped library, computer centre, health
centre, auditorium.

back volumes, 657 reports, 2105 theses. In
addition to this, the library has a good
collection of 270 research journals on a wide

library of Mangalore University has full-text
access to over 7400 journals from UGC-INFONET.
Besides this, the library has an audio-visual
facility, computer-aided retrieval, CD-ROM work
stations and Xerox service. Furthermore, there is
a cyber lab with 50 stations at the library.

INFRASTRUCTURE
Hostel As a matter of fact, Mangalore University
has three well-furnished hostels, one for men,
one for women and another one for working women.
Moreover, the hostel has central facilities such
as 24/7 hours security, a solar water heater, as
well as a water purifier, a power generator Back
up, well-furnished guest rooms. In addition to
this, other important facilities available at the
hostel are a meditation room, indoor sports
facilities, library, emergency medicine, and

multiple streams namely arts, commerce, science,
law and management.  Bachelors Course That is
to say, Mangalore University offers various
undergraduate courses including Bachelors of
Arts, Bachelors of Business Administration, and
Bachelors of Commerce. As a matter of fact,

the country to offer special undergraduate
courses in specialisations such as Hotel
Management and Tourism, Fashion Design,
