ABOUT UNIVERSITY
National Law School of India University (NLSIU)
is an autonomous state-funded public law
institute. Moreover, NLU is located in the
Silicon Valley of India, that is, Bangalore in
Karnataka. As a matter of fact, NLSIU is the
first law university to offer integrated law
degrees across undergraduate, postgraduate, and
doctoral levels. However, the result of the
excellence of National Law School is reflected in
the rankings of top-level bodies including NIRF,
India Today, The Week, QS World, and NAAC. In
addition to this, NLSIU maintained the first
position continuously for the year 2018, 2019,
and 2020. To clarify, the university received the
award in the category of Top Law University by
NIRF. Furthermore, the National Law School of
India University is a member of the Association
of Indian Universities (AIU).

As a matter of fact, NLSIU has recognition from
the Bar Council of India. Undoubtedly, National
Law School Bangalore is the topmost law
university in India. Moreover, NLU, Bangalore is
the main element to transform the Indian legal
system. In addition to this, National Law School,
Bangalore, introduced a unique teaching system
called Group teaching in the country. To clarify,
NLSIU doesnt teach in a traditional lecture way

HISTORY
Undoubtedly, there was a growing demand to study
law courses among the students since the 1960s.
For this reason, the top-class lawyers namely,
Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah, Upendra Baxi, and
Ram Jethmalani along with a legal team made
strong efforts to establish a law university. To
clarify, these three lawyers wanted to set the
foundation of Indian law colleges on the lines of
Harvard Law School. Consequently, the state
government and the Bar Council of India Trust
reached a consensual agreement. Finally, the
government of Karnataka decided to give India as
well as the state a National Level State-Funded
Public Law University.

HISTORY
As a result, the National Law School of India
University (NLSIU) was founded on 29th August
1987 via state law. On the contrary, the State
Assembly gave the final authority, that is,
Chancellor, to the Chief Justice of India. On the
whole, the National Law School of India history
relates to providing quality education to
students across India in the field of law. As a
matter of fact, NLSIU started its first batch in
1988, even before the construction of its own
campus. For this reason, the first batch studied
at the Central College of Bangalore University
until 1991. Later, NLS Bangalore shifted it to
its building at the Nagarbhavi campus.

INFRASTRUCTURE
Undoubtedly, NLSIU has a lush green 23-acre
campus at Nagarbhavi. Moreover, National Law
School has well-developed modern infrastructural
facilities such as academic blocks, a
state-of-the-art library, spacious canteens, a
well-equipped health centre. As well as, the law
university has a fully furnished faculty quarters
and hostels for men and women. In addition to
this, the sports facilities include a well-built
gymnasium, as well as adequate infrastructure for
football, badminton and basketball.

COURSES OFFERED
That is to say, National Law School offers
various UG, PG, and PhD courses across law and
related streams. In addition to this, NLU has an
intake capacity of 120 students in its
undergraduate law courses, as well as 40 in PG
law programs. Besides this, NLS offers 50 seats

Masters Courses Undoubtedly, NLSUI also offers
post graduate law courses across various
disciplines. However, the most in-demand courses
are MA Public Policy and MBL. PhD./M.Phil
Courses As a matter of fact, the National Law
School of India University provides education in
3 PhD streams. To clarify, these streams are law,
public policy, and interdisciplinary subjects.

Bangalore? Obviously, each course has a different
fee structure at NLSIU, Bangalore. Moreover, the
fee of the BA LLB course is ? 288855 per annum
for general category student. On the contrary,
the reserved category candidates must pay ?
285445 per annum. Besides this, the fee structure
of the BA LLM course is ? 218875 (general
category) and 215300 (reserved category).
