What have NGOs been doing to help different
communities facing challenges during the
COVID-19 pandemic?
India went into a nationwide lockdown in March
2020 to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. As
citizens of the country prepared to stay at home
and navigate through the new normal, NGOs of
India began to brace themselves for the battle
ahead. Here are some of the ways in which the
social and charitable organizations of India have
worked relentlessly since then to safeguard a
wide range of communities against the terrible
effects of the pandemic and the
lockdowns. Migrant and daily wage workers In
the initial stages of the pandemic, innumerable
daily wage workers were forced to relocate due to
the lockdown and sudden termination from their
jobs. This loss of income amidst the spread of
the virus amounted to a wave of distress across
the country. food ngos in india stood up to
support these individuals by providing necessary
food, water, protective gear, and shelter.
Organizations also arranged for travel
arrangements for many workers to safely move
back to their ethnic towns or villages. Residents
living in marginal areas Citizens residing in
destitute areas because especially vulnerable
during the pandemic, as they lost their sources
of income and access to necessities. NGOs sprung
into action to provide essentials such as food in
the form of cooked, warm meals as well as ration
packets containing daily requirements for
sustenance. Protective equipment such as masks
and sanitizers were also distributed. Another
important step taken by NGOs was to set up
isolation and treatment centers within
marginalized areas to prevent the spread of the
virus. Orphaned children Records show that
lakhs of children have been orphaned since the
onset of the pandemic as their parents either
succumbed to the disease or fled from the area.
These orphaned children are handed over to care
agencies or NGOs after approval from the
Government. Organizations take on the role of
primary caretakers and provide young children
with necessary nourishment, quality healthcare,
and a protective environment to live in. Many
communities have been the collateral victims of
the pandemic, whose struggled tend to go
unnoticed. With new variants of the virus
emerging and an impending third wave, struggles
faced around the country are only likely to
increase. Online Donation
