IS DANDRUFF OR SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS CONTAGIOUS
2
  • Dandruff is medically known as seborrheic
dermatitis and is a common skin condition. While
it may be common, it doesnt make dealing with
dandruff any less embarrassing. Most people think
that dandruff is a result of poor hygiene but it
is not true. It can be triggered by a number of
different reasons and has to do with much more
than hygiene. If you suffer from persistent
dandruff or it appears to be infected, it is
    important to visit a doctor.

3
Lets first understand what dandruff is?
  • The exact cause of dandruff is not well known,
however, one of the main causes of dandruff is a
fungus called Malassezia. In some cases, it is
also related to hormone levels. Dandruff causes
the skin on the scalp to form flakes these
flakes are actually dead skin cells. Although it
is normal to shed dead skin cells, with dandruff
the rate at which these skin cells shed is much
faster. Dandruff is more likely to occur in areas
that are rich in oil-producing glands.

  • The following are some of the common factors that
    can make dandruff worse
  • Dry or Oily skin
  • Not cleansing the scalp properly
  • Fungal infection
  • Certain hair products
  • Allergies
  • Environmental factors such as humidity
  • Other skin problems such as psoriasis

Is Dandruff Contagious?
  • Simple answer no dandruff cannot be transmitted
from person to person. It is an inflammatory skin
condition but the condition is typically
harmless. Since dandruff can be a result of a
fungal infection, there is a myth that it can
spread but these white flakes are not at all
contagious. Also, most of the time dandruff is
not considered a serious disease. At times,
dandruff can get worse, cause flare-ups and
recur. Moreover, it is unpleasant to deal with
and can also have an impact on a persons
    appearance.

6
  • Dandruff treatment usually includes shampoos and
home remedies. In some cases, dandruff home
remedies or over the counter products work very
well. However, what works for others may not
    necessarily work for you.
  • Dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis is usually
diagnosed with a physical examination. If the
diagnosis is uncertain or if the condition
persists a skin biopsy can also be recommended.

7
Homeopathic Dandruff Treatment
  • Homeopathic medicines for dandruff are safe,
effective and provide lasting results. Homeopathy
helps to control the over-active oil glands and
corrects the factors that can trigger dandruff.
It can not only help reduce dandruff but it can
also help reduce scalp irritation and
    inflammation. Homeopathic medicines effectively
manage the underlying cause of dandruff be it
anemia, thyroid or stress. It can also help to
