Title: Important Factors to Consider When Selecting a Label Solution

1
Important Factors to Consider When Selecting a
Label Solution
2
  • Transportation and logistics, pharmaceuticals,
    shipping and distribution and industrial
production all use barcode label solutions.
  • In order for operations to run smoothly, every
business needs accurate results and every
labeling error or improper maintenance affects
    the supply chain.
  • The Difference between Direct Thermal and Thermal
Transfer Printers In their white paper, choosing
the right label to identify your finished
product, before we outline the factors to
consider before choosing a label solution.

Thermal printing
  • Chemically treated, heat-sensitive medium is used
directly in thermal printing and it turns black
as it passes through the printhead.
  • Ink, toner and ribbon are not used in direct
    thermal printers.
  • The life of a direct thermal material is shorter
than that of a thermal transfer material and it
    is more likely to perish.
  • Heat, light, friction and chemicals are all
    sensitive to direct thermal labels.
  • When these objects appear in front of them, the
content becomes dark, making it impossible to
    read text and barcodes.

4
  • The thermal print head applies heat to the
ribbon, which melts the ink on the material to
create the image in thermal transfer printing.
  • Other on-demand printing technologies cannot
compete with the image quality and durability
    provided by this technique.
  • Thermal transfer involves a larger amount of
material than direct thermal, such as paper,
    polyester, vinyl, polypropylene and polyamide.
  • Thermal transfer solutions are more durable than
direct thermal solutions because they can
withstand a wide range of temperatures and
    chemicals.

Considerations for Labeling Solutions
  • It is important to choose the right label
    solution when considering printing labels.
  • When deciding on the best printing technology,
materials and ribbons, consider the following so
that the label remains readable throughout the
product's journey through the supply chain
  • The surface type and size will have different
adhesion properties on different surfaces. When
labeling, always consider the type and size of
    the surface.
  • Temperature for application and service- Both
application and service temperature should be
taken into consideration. Ask for details about
the label's ability to withstand the heat of a
freezer or oven. When will the product label be
    applied?

6
  • Consider whether the label will be exposed to
chemicals such as cleaning solutions, oil,
    grease, or alcohol.
  • Will your label be exposed to external elements
like rain, sun or snow or will it be kept
indoors? If so, the thermal transfer synthetic
material will provide the extra durability needed
    to withstand these harsh conditions.
  • Label Lifespan - Knowing how long a label should
be readable and the environmental factors will
    help determine the best solution.
