Mace and Its Derivations
  • Two aromatic products are extracted from the
mace spice - Mace essential oil and Mace
oleoresin. The essential oil is obtained by steam
distillation, while oleoresin is derived by the
solvent extraction method. It is thin, clear,
pale yellow to brownish-yellow liquid with a
spicy, sweet warm aroma with woody undertones.
The oil has analgesic, antioxidant, antiemetic
    (vomiting-preventing), stimulant, antiseptic,
    carminative (flatulence -relieving), aphrodisiac,
and emmenagogue properties similar to any other
spice oil. It is used for nausea, dysentery,
    diarrhea, dyspepsia, and rheumatism (inflammation
    pain), and flavouring.
