HEALTH BENFITS OF SPIRULINA
  • Spirulina is rich in a range of vitamins and
minerals essential for maintaining a healthy
immune system, like vitamins E, C, and B6.
  • Spirulina is a dietary supplement made from
    blue-green algae or cyanobacteria.
  • A tablespoon of dried spirulina, which is how
you're most likely to find it sold, contains only

CULTIVATION OF SPIRULINA
It should take 3-6 weeks for spirulina to grow
after adding the culture to the medium. You'll
know it's ready to harvest when it's dark green
and looks thick in the tank. You can verify that
it's ready by making sure the pH remains around
10 for 24 hours.

Market strategy of SCP in India
  • The production of Spirulina in a month will be
around 100 to 130 kg per month. Dry Spirulina
powder in the market will fetch about Rs. 600/-
per kg. A farmer can earn about 40-45,000/- per
    month.
  • Spirulina grown in 3 earthen pots of 35-40 liter
capacity is sufficient to provide 2 grams per day
(per person) high-quality spirulina powder to
    meet 100 vitamin A and 200 vitamin B-12
requirement, daily. Pots are easy to handle as
    compared to concrete-lined ponds or
    polythene-lined pits.
  • Moreover, the hot tropical climate in Tamil Nadu,
south India, is perfect for spirulina
    cultivation.
