1
Understanding the Applications and Uses of 2205
Duplex Stainless Steel?
  • Duplex stainless steel is amongst the highest
grades of stainless steel available in the
market. They have a very rigid structure with
extreme corrosion resistance. The duplex 2205 was
formed in the year 1996 with the SS 18003 grade
    undergoing rigorous modification. Results came
out and became one of the leading stainless steel
quality of the industry. It is highly resistant
to any damage caused by various things.
  • Duplex stainless steel is highly resistant to
corrosion and can handle extreme heat in higher
and lower temperatures, before losing any
structural capabilities. It will start to fail at
a high temperature which can be only achieved
when welding or bending. The extreme temperatures
for it to operate successfully are 300 degrees
    and -50 degrees Celsius.
  • SS 2205 Duplex steel is a mixture of two types of
stainless steel. These two stainless sheets of
steel are also commonly used for their benefits
in the process. The two stainless steel are
Austenitic and Ferritic stainless steel. Duplex
stainless steel sheet adds the best quality of
both stainless sheets of steel. Austenitic
provides better corrosion resistance and Ferriti
has a low effect on higher heat or temperature
and is consistent with the structural core. The
2205 duplex stainless steel prominently contains
an equal percentage of Austenitic and Ferritic
    stainless steel.

2
Benefits of Duplex Stainless Steel.
  • Duplex stainless steel contains a higher amount
of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen and a lower
amount of nickel. It adds up to create a
fantastic alloy for corrosion resistivity and
lightweight. The 2205 grade of stainless steel is
far better than the 316 grade in every possible
    comparison.

Here are the Characteristics of Duplex 2205
  • High Resistance to Chloride Stress Corrosion
  • Chloride Pitting and Crevice Resistance
  • Overall Corrosion Resistance
  • Excellent Resistance to Sulfide Stress Corrosion
  • Immense Strength
  • Improved Weldability and Workability
  • The low carbon content present in the alloy makes
it highly repellent to any chemical reactivity
and corrosion. It also allows protection from
pitting and crevices, cracking, and chirping. The
applications of 2205 duplex stainless steel are
varied and can be used for multiple high-caliber
    industries.

4
Applications of Duplex Stainless Steel.
  • Due to the high ratio of chromium, molybdenum,
and nitrogen, the application properties are
acceptable in marine industries. Brackish water
is highly corrosive, and only the SS2205 Duplex
Plates is capable enough to perform in such
conditions. It can be further used in bleaching
operations and closed-loop water systems. Duplex
is also used in food processing industries with
    further procedures.
  • Chemical Procession Vessels,
  • Pipings
  • Heat Exchangers
  • Pulp Mill Digester
  • Bleach Washers
  • Chip Pre-steaming Vessels
  • Oil Field Pipings and Heat Exchangers
  • Fuel Gas Desulfurization Equipment
