We're all hoping that 2022 will be a stellar year
after the two years that we've had. It's perhaps
been a mixed bag for most but what have been the
biggest learnings from this year? I would look
at the learnings not in the last one year but the
last couple of years. The challenges of the
economy are big learnings. And how do we see
these challenges? We have had challenges from
Covid, where there were also people working from
home (WFH). People couldn't reach the places of
work or school or anything. We have challenges
with interest rate hike. That continues to be a
big challenge. It was a challenge in order to get
the execution of the projects. There are multiple
challenges .. The beauty of this country has
been the fact that we more than met the
challenges. We have produced the vaccines of the
world. We've been able to grow the infrastructure
and housing. People want more houses, even at
higher rates of interest and at higher prices. So
all in all, we are a resilient country.

Sure we have difficulties personally and
throughout the entire economy, but we are
overcoming that with great support from the
central government, state governments and other
authorities, says Niranjan Hiranandani .
Could you call out the big trends as you see it
in 2023?
2023 will be coming out of the recessionary
trends which have taken place in 2022. People
were all worried about the economy going down.
The economy will take a turn in 2023 and start
moving on an upward trajectory.
Over a period of a year or so, the
Russian-Ukraine war will end or get mitigated. It
can't continue at the level that it is now ..

It can't continue at the level that it is now at
forever. All that will make the supply end much
easier and lower petroleum prices will become a
norm. All in all, a turnaround will take place.
India will continue to grow. The leadership story
of India will take over the world and the
business will continue in a very positive way.
I think there are challenges within that. Namely
we don't have actual skills for the purposes of
the growth story of India. I think much more
skilling is required to be focused on in order to
take the situation and grab the opportunity for
the future of India.
What advice would you like to share with the
viewers of leaders of tomorrow?
Entrepreneurs have to wait and watch and
understand how to get new innovative ideas. Pick
up the gaps in the economy. Find out which
opportunities they can cash on and be ready for
the turnaround in the economy. This is the right
time to contemplate and take preparations and
then wait for an appropriate point to launch the
project.

Obviously a more conservative view may have to be
taken by some of the industries which are not
growing at the same path or for instance if they
are concerned about being export-oriented
industries where there is a recessionary trend in
the countries in which they export. Obviously
that problem will continue. All in all, within
the country it looks very positive.
Outside the country, we have to wait and see what
happens to the war, what happens to the economy
of the western and other countries and where
economies are doddering at this point of time,

What idea do you want to leave us with? There is
never a one point as far as the qualities of
leaders of tomorrow are concerned. If you look at
it as the most important, one needs to have an
understanding of what are the needs of all the
stakeholders of your business.
So whether the stakeholders are your customers
whether they are your workers or suppliers,
whether you are partners or bankers we have to
always be cognizant of all the needs of each of
these segments iin order to do because if you
have to grow in terms of a leadership, then you
cannot say I will not have capital, I will not
have good interest of my all stakeholders or I
will not take care of the investment
opportunities coming through our bankers all in
all we need to have sensitization to all the
stakeholders.
