INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF MILLETS In recent years,
there has been a growing interest in millets due
to their health benefits, environmental
sustainability, and their ability to contribute
to food security. Millets are resilient crops
that require less water and are more tolerant of
drought and other environmental stressors.
Promoting millet cultivation can help increase
the resilience of farming systems and improve
food security, particularly in areas prone to
climate change and other environmental
challenges.In lieu of multi-fold benefits,
millets have been proclaimed to play a direct
role in helping achieve UN's Sustainable
Development Goals, especially SD 2- Zero hunger,
SDG 3- Good health wellbeing, SDG 12-
Sustainable consumption and production, and SDG
13- Climate Change. Hence, for the revitalization
of millets and harness their potential to
address climate change and food security, 2023
has been declared as the International Year of
Millets. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS FSSAI, under
the Food Products Standards and Food Additives
5th Amendment Regulations, 2021 has notified to
incorporate standards for Mixed Millet Flour
(2.4.38) which states that "Mixed millet flour
means the product obtained by milling/grinding
blend of clean millets/pseudomillets or by
blending flour obtained from clean millets. The
product shall be free from abnormal flavours,
odours, living insects, visible mould and filth
(impurities of animal origins, including dead
insects)". These laws have come into force on
June 1, 2022. In accordance, it is important for
millets to get tested. "This standard applies to
the whole or dehulled millets, which shall be
free from poisonous, toxic, noxious, or
obnoxious seeds and added colouring matter,
rodent hair and excreta" The following millets
shall be covered under this standard

Reference Laboratory (NRL)' for Oil and
Fats. FARE Labs has been Certified by ISO
90012015, ISO 140012015, ISO 450012018,
ISO/IEC 270012013. FARE Labs major business
divisions are Testing, Calibration, Proficiency
Testing Provider and Reference Material
Production. Testing division's primary industry
verticals cover Food and Agriculture,
Pharmaceuticals, Environment and Energy.
Calibration division's industry verticals
encompass Mechanical, Electro-Technical, Thermal,
Fluid Flow, Dimension and Medical Devices.
