What is Eastern Gateway Community College?
  • A new community college district approved by the
    State legislature, July 2009 to serve Mahoning,
    Trumbull, Columbiana and Jefferson Counties
  • A college with no boundaries
  • Eastern Gateway Community College is accredited
    by the Commission on Institutions of Higher
    Learning of the North Central Association of
    Colleges and Schools (NCA)

Why Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and
Jefferson Counties?
  • One of the largest areas of the state without
    access to community college education.
  • Education and income levels below state and
    national averages
  • Difficult for people to compete for jobs and
    companies to be competitive
  • A community college provides residents with
    easy access to two-year degrees that are required
    for many high paying jobs.
  • Raising education levels in the region can help
    residents, workers, and companies grow and
    prosper into the future.

HOW WILL COURSES BE DELIVERED?
  • Use existing facilities 6 locations 4 Career
    Centers in the Mahoning Valley, the Jefferson
    Campus in the southern portion of the district
    the Valley Center, Northside Medical Center,
    Gypsy Lane (on the border of Trumbull and
    Mahoning counties)
  • Distance Learning Technology online, interactive
    video
  • Affordable education
  • Offered at sites close to work and home for
    improved access for working adults

WHAT COURSES PROGRAMS WILL BE OFFERED?
  • Eastern Gateway Community College will offer its
    own programs and work with other community
    colleges (deliver partners) in state to provide
    new programs that dont exist in the Valley.
  • To start, the College will offer 11 Associate
    degrees, 6 college Certificate programs, and more
    than 180 course sections.

    created due to technology and efficiency.
  • Information Technology is one of the greatest
    needs in both sectors.

  • Ohio ranks third in manufacturing among the
    states
  • 40 of Ohios manufacturing is in NE Ohio
  • U.S. manufacturers continue to be the worlds
    leader with 24 of share of world-wide
    manufacturing.
  • Japan is second with 22.

  • Jobs require skills in STEM (Science, Technology,
    Engineering, Math) as well as communications,
    problem solving, teamwork, and creativity
  • Stakeholders (students, parents, employers,
    educators) need to recognize that students must
    begin early to focus on developing these skills.
