Mandhubani Paintings
  • Madhubani paintins are created by women to
    decorate their homes for marriages and religious
    holidays.
  • Eventually their designs were reproduced on paper
  • Paints are made from plants, flowers, and rice.
  • Brushes are made from cotton wrapped around a
    bamboo stick.

Pattachitra
  • Pattachitra is a chitra (a painting) on a patta
    (a canvas)
  • The paints are colored with raw materials such as
    plants, leaves, soot, and powdered stones.
  • A strict order must be followed the borders,
    then the outlines of the figures, the clothes, to
    ornaments, any other decorations, and last, the
    eyeballs.
  • Today, pattachitra are now painted on other
    surfaces such as silk and palm leaf manuscripts

    foil and glass.

    colors.
