Cross Domain Solution (CDS) Certification, Test
Evaluation (CTE)
  • Description
  • Cross Domain Solutions protect SECRET and above
    security domains from lower level security
    domains while allowing authorized and releasable
    information to flow between both domains.
  • The Cross Domain Solution connection approval is
    a complex and resource intensive process. As
    part of this approval process, SSC LANT performs
    testing on behalf of NSA.
  • In order to meet Joint Staffs demands the NSA
    has authorized 3 labs to perform CDS CTE on
    their behalf. There is a signed MOA between SSC
    LANT CO and NSA IA Directorate designating SSC
    LANT as one of the test labs (which is the only
    NSA appointed Navy test lab.
  • SSC LANT CDS CTE team conducts tests based on
    NSAs rigorous security requirements including
    partial penetration testing.
  • Defense Security Accreditation Working Group
    rates the CDS based on the test results and input
    from the CDS team.
  • Capabilities Relevance
  • Navy CDS office works closely with the team to
    identify security findings to support Navy CDS
    Certification and Accreditation (CA) efforts.
  • Several Navy commands (PEOC4I, PACOM, CINCPACFLT,
    FNMOC, USS Bonhomme Richard) and other federal
    agencies (DISA, SOCOM, CENTCOM, JFCOM, Army, NSA)
    have benefited from the quicker certification
    process.
  • The successful testing have gained respect from
    NSA and the DOD CDS community, which has lead to
    other Navy CDS engineering and CA requests.
