Gods Covenant with Abraham

• Abraham will have many descendents
• Those descendants would occupy the land of
  Canaan.

The Promised Land

• Its the name given to the land promised by God
  to Abraham and his descendants. Thus, it refers
  to the same territory described by such terms as
  Canaan, Palestine, Israel and the Holy
  land. But the important point is that the
  promised land is a gift from God to the
  Israelites.

1. The Promise of Gods Presence

• Joshua 15No one will be able to stand up
  against you all the days of your life. As I was
  with Moses, so I will be with you I will never
  leave you nor forsake you.

Exodus 3311-15

• Exodus 3311The LORD would speak to Moses face
  to face, as a man speaks with his friend.
• Exodus 3312Moses said to the LORD, You have
  been telling me, Lead these people, but you
  have not let me know whom you will send with me.

• Exodus 3314The LORD replied, My Presence will
  go with you, and I will give you rest.
• Exodus 3315Then Moses said to him, If your
  Presence does not go with us, do not send us up
  from here.

2. Listen to the Voice of God

• Joshua 18Do not let this Book of the Law
  depart from your mouth meditate on it day and
  night , so that you may be careful to do
  everything written in it. Then you will be
  prosperous and successful.
• Psalm 119105Your word is a lamp to my feet
  and a light for my path.

3. Obedience to God

• God commanded Joshua in the followings
• a) be strong and courageous. Three times in
  V 6, 7 and 9.
• b) to a specific task and responsibility.
  Joshua is to lead the invasion and cross over
  which means conquest of the promised land.

4. Holiness

• Joshua 7 10-12The Lord said to Joshua, Stand
  up! What are you doing down on your face? Israel
  has sinned they have violated my covenant, which
  I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of
  the devoted things they have stolen, they have
  lied, they have put them with their own
  possessions. Thats why the Israelites cannot
  stand against their enemies . I will not be
  with you anymore unless you destroy whatever
  among you is devoted to destruction.

4. Holiness Contd

• Psalm 6618If I had cherished sin in my heart,
  the Lord would not have listened
• 1 John 19 If we confess our sins, he is
  faithful and just and will forgive us our sins
  and purify us from all our unrighteousness.

Whats the RELEVANCE FOR US TODAY

• God has a life assignment for us and we discover
  it only through our relationship with Christ. He
  has something special for us to do on earth and
  just as Joshua was given a task and he completed
  his task with success.

• Dr O S Hawkins defines it so well when he said,
  SUCCESS is finding the will of God and doing
  it.
• The sober thought is that if we are not walking
  in the will and ways of God, we may succeed in
  doing the wrong thing. A guy who succeeds in
  doing the wrong thing is NOT a success but a
  total failure in the eyes of God.

• The assurance of Gods presence with you.
• Listen to His voice.
• Obey God as the Holy Spirit leads and empowers.
• Be holy and be prompt to eradicate sin.
