Title: An Introduction to the JISC TILE Project
1An Introduction tothe JISC TILE Project
- TILE was tasked with three objectives in relation
to the onward development of HE library and
Information Environment services - to investigate the scope scale of Library 2.0
in UK HE - i.e. current library uses of Web 2.0 applications
and services - to identify the most significant related
challenges (Pain Points) facing library systems
development - document using the methodology of the
international e-Framework - to propose a high level library domain model
positioning these challenges in a library
business process context - which might assist library service partners to
develop a shared articulation of service
objectives and functions

3Supermarkets
- Supermarkets gain valuable insights into user
behaviour by data mining purchases and uncovering
usage trends. Further insights are gained by
analysing purchasing histories, facilitated by
the use of store loyalty cards.

4Libraries?
- Libraries could gain valuable insights into user
behaviour by data mining borrowing and uncovering
usage trends. Further insights are gained by
analysing borrowing histories, facilitated by the
use of library cards.

5Concentrate and characterise the intelligence
(patterns of user activity) existing in HE
systems at institutional level in order to
deliver webscale services of value throughout
the community to undergraduates
researchers, to lecturers librarians and the
institutions themselves.

7With critical mass of activity data from Day
1, this brings to life the opportunity to
embrace and curate user contribution (UGC
including ratings, reviews, bookmarks,
lists) Barriers to contribution use of
contributed information will be as low as
possible Benefits of contribution will be
clearly visible with real promise of being useful
