History of the Hurricane Preparedness Standard
  • Been in development since the fall of 2003
  • Released to help assist businesses with the
    development of a preparedness system
  • Written by the Hurricane Preparedness
    Certification Committee (the HPCC)

History Continued
  • HPCC is an invited member of an American National
    Standards Institute (ANSI) subcommittee
  • Requested by the Dept. of Homeland Security and
    the Chairman of the American Society for Testing
    and Materials (ASTM)
  • Working with Homeland Security to release the
    standard as an ASTM document in 2009
  • Currently the standard is released through
    ISH/Global standards

The Standard Explained
  • 4 Grade Levels
  • D Most Basic Level (150 Attributes)
  • Each grade level above D increases with roughly
    100 increasingly stringent elements
  • Preparing to Level D increases the chances of
    minimizing business interruption
