DCS 233 Assessed course work
  • Overview  For this assignment you must produce
a CV and cover letter for a specific job vacancy
    and an occupational study.
  • Your occupational study should also refer to
a separate bibliography listing the resources you
    have discovered (inc. publications, directories,
    articles, recruitment agencies, contacts gained
from networking, professional bodies, and all
    other sources).
  • Assignments should be returned to your
    department by Monday 23rd April.
  • Please note it is highly recommended that
you carry out the occupational study before you
    attempt to complete your application!

  • Occupational study
  • An occupational study is a thorough organised
study or profile of a career (or similar careers)
occupation involving research and analysis of
data. As part of this analysis you are required
to reflect upon what you have discovered and
relate this occupational information to your
personal skills, interests and goals (remember
the SODiT model!). This is intended to help you
to provide the evidence required in writing your
    applications.
  • One way of of quickly assessing some of the
possible occupations you may be interested in
(and discounting others!) is by using a
computer-based career exploration tool such as
'Prospects Planner'. This is available across the
campus network and print-outs are free if used in
CEEC. A less sophisticated version is also
available on the Prospects site at
    http//www.prospects.ac.uk/links/Pplanner
  • The bibliography is designed to demonstrate the
number, range and quality of resources you have
used as well as the credibility of the statements
you have made in your occupational study.
