A Land-Grant University

The Morrill Act (1892)
  • Every state that had remained in the Union
    received 30,000 acres of public land for every
    member of its congressional delegation (i.e. at
    least 90,000 acres)
  • The land was sold to establish a college of
    engineering, agriculture and military science
  • A second act in 1890 extended the act to the
    southern states

The Graduate and Professional Student Association
is the representative body for graduate and
professional students at WSU. The GPSAs primary
role is to provide academic and professional
support services and represent graduate students
issues.
