• Institutional Considerations
• Florida GED PLUS programs
• Can be operated in conjunction with regular GED
  preparatory program.
• Do not receive enhanced funding at this point in
  time
• Must have instructors who can handle the higher
  level academic requirements
• Must include additional counseling and
  recruitment
• May require additional classroom space and
  college-preparatory materials

• Districts and colleges may establish an
  implementation model that meets their specific
  needs, but it must include
• Flexible curriculum design
• Meaningful, ongoing assessment and feedback
• Goal setting
• Clear classroom expectations
• Creative instruction and varied instructional
  strategies
• Clear understanding of the academic expectations
  of the collaborating college

  Johns River Community College (SJRCC)
• Large School District Model developed by Miami

  County (SDPBC)

• Pilot programs may implement any model as
  outlined in the Implementation Guide or they may
  make alterations to meet their own needs, however
  they should include
• Assessment
• Counseling
• Student incentives
• Student requirements
• Teacher requirements including professional
  development
• Marketing

• Marketing and Recruitment
• General awareness

• Face-to-face contacts
• Presentations to students already in the adult
  education program

You will need to recruit three to four times the
number of adults expected to enroll!

• Eligibility Criteria
• Must be 16 or older
• Does not have a high school diploma
• Must be legally withdrawn from the regular school
  system
• Appropriate score on approved assessment

• Assessment Result Requirements
• Minimum of 10.0 grade level equivalent in
  reading, mathematics, and language or a
  corresponding scale score on a state approved
  assessment or
• An overall average of 450 or above on the
  Official GED Practice Test or
• A successful passing score on the FCAT based on
  review of students high school records or
• Approval by an academic admission team based on
  alternative criteria.

• Allowable alternatives to standard assessment
  criteria
• successful completion of high school level
  courses in Language Arts and Algebra
• successful participation and/or completion of ABE
  or GED Preparatory courses and/or
• SAT/ACT scores commensurate with those scores
  that indicate enrollment into remedial and/or
  developmental courses in college.

• Exit Criteria
• Obtain a passing score of 600 or higher on all
  areas of the Official GED Practice Test
• Obtain an average of 550 or higher on the GED
  Tests
• Complete a program of study to the mastery level
  that includes
• Writing skills
• Reading comprehension
• Pre-algebra and algebra
• College survival skills

• Florida GED PLUS programs will need
• Appropriate classroom space, including room to
  provide whole group instruction as well as the
  more typical individualized or small group
  instruction
• Access to college level texts in different
  academic areas
• Access to technology including computers with
  Internet access
• Access to local libraries or college libraries
  for students to conduct research

  adult education and college credit program

  teach
• Participate in ongoing professional development
• Florida GED PLUS Institute
• Regional professional development within specific
  areas and focusing on appropriate strategies

  opportunities
• Work collaboratively with their peers

• Florida GED PLUS program must incorporate
  curriculum based on the content guidelines
  included in the Implementation Guide, including
• Reading
• Writing
• Mathematics/Algebra
• College Survival Skills

• Florida GED PLUS program must include an
  evaluation component in the program that includes
  the collection and reporting of data related to
• Student progress/success
• Entrance and Exit Scores
• TABE, Official GED Practice Tests
• GED Test Scores
• Length of time in program
• Enrollment in college
• Number who are exempt from remediation and/or
  development courses in college

• Florida GED PLUS program must include an
  evaluation component in the program
• Student evaluation of program, teachers, and
  content
• Teacher evaluation of the program
• Programmatic evaluation through use of state
  generated reports

• The Florida GED PLUS College Preparation Program
  is recommended to be 60-120 hours in length and
  include reading, writing, mathematics, and
  college survival skills.
• Will your program be open-entry, open-exit?
• Will your program have a fixed schedule (i.e.,
  clearly defined enrollment dates with an
  established ending date)?
• Will your program operate two, three, or more
  days/nights per week? How many hours per session?
• How will you market your program and recruit
  students?
• How will you select staff for your program?

• Will you incorporate distance learning into the
  program?
• Will you combine individualized instruction with
  small- and large-group activities?
• How will you include ongoing counseling and

  prior to enrollment? What will it include?
