The LINGUA Centre
  • established within the Babes-Bolyai University,
    the Faculty of Economics and Business
    Administration, in 1999
  • mission to respond to the student and community
    needs related to extracurricular training and
    testing
  • affiliated to the European Confederation of
    Language Centres in Higher Education CercleS.

  • The centre is mainly oriented towards
    undergraduates and graduates in the following

    business), a precondition for the BA, MA and PhD
    examinations, as well as for employment,

The ALPHA Centre for Modern Languages
  • has been functioning within the Faculty of
    Letters at the Babes-Bolyai University of
    Cluj-Napoca since 2002
  • offers varied language programmes
  • offers services related to language learning and
    testing to
  • students and university staff,
  • a broader public from outside the academic medium.

Programmes offered by the ALPHA Centre
  • 1. Language courses
  • Three-level courses in the following languages
    English, French, German, Russian, Italian,
    Spanish, Hungarian, Romanian, Finnish, Norwegian,
    Irish, Japanese, Polish, and Dutch
  • Preparation courses for the ALPHA language test
  • Preparation courses for international tests
    Cambridge, TOEFL, DALF, Sprachdiplom
  • Three-level courses in Romanian as a foreign
    language.
  • 2. Language tests successful candidates are
    granted certificates.
  • 3. Translation and conference-translation
    services.

The two centres of the Babes-Bolyai University
respond to the key points providedby the CercleS
ELP Project
  • all levels of language proficiency from beginner
    (A1) to advanced (C1 and C2)
  • used by students who are learning one or more
    foreign languages
  • (i) as their main focus of study,
  • (ii) as a subsidiary part of their study, or
  • (iii) in order to give added valued to their
    study,
  • used by students who are not currently learning a
    language but who wish to gather evidence of their
    language proficiency.

The quality enhancement at the Babes-Bolyai
University

  • development of the LINGUA Centre a Resource

  • needed in order to obtain learners motivation
    and to provide meaningful information for
    non-academic bodies such as potential employers.

PROJECTS
  • Creation of a national association the LINGUA
    Association to which shall adhere other
    language centres interested into
  • learning what happens at the European level, and
  • benefitting of everything that CercleS offers in
    its aims, that means its help
  • to support language centres in European
    establishments of higher education, for the
    provision of language training backed up by
    appropriate technological and pedagogical
    resources
  • to promote research in foreign language learning
    at international level
  • to encourage international and interdisciplinary
    cooperation between language centres in order to
    enable them to co-ordinate the pursuit of their
    objectives.

  • The strategy of applying the Linguistic Policy of
    BBU is balanced and flexible.
  • It is meant to motivate and stimulate the
    students to perfect their knowledge of foreign
    language.
