Philosophy Statement
I believe that To be an effective event planner
you need to work at your full potential. Always
put your best foot forward. Organization is a
necessary skill when handling the
responsibilities of an event planner. When your
task and work area are organized then your mind
and day are organized. Time is very important
because when it is used wisely tasks get done
more efficiently and effectively. When time is
not wasted there will be no regret or worry. It
is better to not make a vow than to make a vow
and not fulfill it. Being a faithful employee is
a valuable work ethic.
Career Goals
In 5 years I plan to Become a project
manager. Organize large scale events for a
company. Be further developed in my
communication skills as they apply to working
with different clients. Apply my creative skills
towards putting together an event.

Field ExperienceInternship 2009
I interned for Nani Salon, Spa Boutique during
the summer of 2009. Nani is located in the
beautiful downtown Atlanta area, and is owned by
retired NBA player Shandon Anderson. Nani Salon,
Spa, Boutique is a retail business that sells
high end womens and mens clothing and products.
Brain storming names for the event flier. This
was important because we needed something catchy
to get customers to the sale.
My main job with Nani was to take lead for
their July 2009 trunk show. It was my job to
plan, organize, and execute every detail of the
event. I also worked with the inventory, and did
other outside jobs for the company.
7
  • Preparation Meeting for July 17th Trunk Show
  • Location
  • Location is great b/c its centralized, its right
next to the department of transportation, and
    great parking selections
  • Its also great b/c its familiar to the people
who already have shopped at previous trunk shows
  • One less thing we would have to worry about
    dealing with
  • Set-up
  • Use plastic hangers for jeans
  • Use rack for products
  • Have better traffic flow
  • Have vendors more separated from the Nani tables
  • Volunteers-need them for
  • Sign-in
  • Dressing room
  • Moving merchandise to location
  • Restocking
  • Can get volunteers from college

8
This was one of the timelines I created to stay
on schedule with the planning of the company
trunk show. This timeline shows what needed to be
done the week of the event.
9
The most important activity while planning the
event was getting all of the inventory marked
down, and packed for transportation. While
marking down the inventory our goal was to not
mark down too much, so that the company would
make a decent profit from the trunk show.
Signage was also important for the trunk show.
Each sign let the customer know what brands were
on sale.
10
The Trunk Show Day started at 630am and ended at
10pm. My job was to see the event through from
beginning to end. I has to make sure signs,
products, clothing, tables, vendors, and other
items where in the right places. I also made sure
that the vendors were well taken care of.

  • THE GIDEWON FOUNDATION

The Gidewon Foundation is an organization geared
to improving the quality of life for the youth
and the homeless in Atlanta. Nani Sensorium is a
proud supporter of the Gidewon Foundation.
The foundation held a charity event called
Party For a Cause Ball. This event was held at
the Fernbank Museum of Natural History on July
11, 2009.
12
Before the charity event I assisted the event
coordinator Ms. Crystal Betts with the set-up
decorating of the venue. Myself along with Ms.
Bettss team set-up the venue in record time (3
hours). After set-up I worked the event from
7pm-5am by making sure guests were taken care of
in the casino room.
Dining Area This area was in the main part of
the venue. There was music, dancing, and open
bars.
Outdoor Area
Casino Room- This used as pure fun and
entertainment for the guest.
Sitting Area- there were three sitting areas
throughout the venue.

Field Experience Fashion Show Production 2009
I took on my first leadership role as director of
The Organization of Black Unity 2009 fashion
show. The show is run like a theater production
with an overall theme, and sub-themes that
coordinate with the overall theme.
I created trend boards to give a visual image of
how I wanted each scene portrayed in the show.
The Exotic scene consisted of models begin
painted as different animals, and modeled bathing
suits that were designed by students from Central
Michigan.
14
As director my responsibility for choosing
models, styling garments, hair/make-up looks,
stage layout, lighting and music, and the
choreographing of scenes. I was also in charge of
obtaining vendors, volunteers, funding, practices
leading up to show, and notifying the campus and
surrounding areas of the fashion show.
This was one of the fliers used to help promote
the fashion show. I created this flier in Adobe
Photoshop program. The graphics that were used to
create the flier were taken from three different
pictures. The objective of this flier was to
promote one of the fundraisers prior to the
fashion show.
15
I created the event program using Adobe Indesign
program. The school newspaper Central Michigan
Life sponsored by placing an ad in the paper for
free, and the Minority Student Services sponsored
by printing the program.
Family, friends, businesses, and campus offices
helped with the funding of the show by placing
advertisements in the program.

writing you on behalf of the Organization of
Black Unitys 9th annual fashion show Once
Upon A Time, A Fashion Fantasy. This event will
take place on February 6, 2009 on Central
Michigan Universitys campus. The OBU staff is
offering advertisement spaces in the event
program. Money received from advertisements will

America.   Your business will benefit from
advertising in our program because family and
friends around Michigan will be attending this

Academic Work Illustration
The objective of illustration was to learn about
graphic skills involving drawing fashion figures,
garments, and rendering textures. The major
project for this course was to choose a clothing
line and target market of our choice. I chose to
design for Liz Langes maternity line for Target.
I named the clothing collection Versatility
because every woman wants something they can
change from day to night even if they are
pregnant. The collection is for the fall season.
The demographic is women ages 25-35, middle
class, married, work 8 to 10 hours a day, and
have a versatile lifestyle.
This maternity outfit has a hounds tooth cape, a
rose colored knit turtleneck top, and wide leg
jeans. This outfit can easily be dressed up by
taking off the jacket, adding nice jewelry, and
changing the shoes.
18
This maternity outfit has a velour blazer, mossy
green knit top and chocolate corduroy pants. The
blazer can be taken off and the shoes changed to
flats or boots for a more casual look.
This maternity outfit has a khaki colored knit
sweater, a purple knit top, and classic denim
slacks. The over coat can be taken off, and
jewelry added for a more dressy look.

Academic Work Introduction to Computer Aid
Design
The objective of this course was to learn the
development and production of textiles, apparel
designs, and patterns through computer software.
In the introductory course I learned how to
develop patterns, and apparel designs by using
Adobe Illustrator program. The first project
objective was the create a pattern using
different forms of inspiration. The inspirations
came from greeting cards, Western and Asian art
work.
Inspiration came from Western artwork. The broken
hearts were inspired by the womens face, and the
other graphics were inspired by the pattern in
the background of the portrait.
Inspiration came from a snowman greeting card.
The small snowman were made with the Illustrator
software along with the snow.
20
To Grandmothers House We Go
The second project objective was to create a
clothing line for the company Limited Too. The
theme for my designs was To Grandmothers House
We Go, the target market I chose was girls 9-12,
and the season was Winter. The categories I
designed for were everyday wear, outerwear,
holiday, and sleepwear.

Academic WorkAdvanced Computer Aid and Design
  • This course consisted of apparel design and
production techniques using Kaledo Style, Kaledo
    Design, and Kaledo Weave.
  • The major projects in this course were creating
patterns using different forms of inspiration,
creating garments and placing the pattern ( on
the garments) in different ways, creating
different fabrication weaves, and creating a
    clothing line of our choice.

This pattern design was made in Kaledo Print
Software. The dragon flies were also made by
using the featured tools in the program.
The garments featured were taken from the Kaledo
Style design library. The print was formatted in
Kaledo Print, and placed on the garments in
Kaledo Style by using different shaping tools.
24
This weave is a check. I would use this fabric
to make a Womens long casual button down shirt,
a newsboy hat, or a men's casual shirt.
This weave is a stripe. I would use this fabric
for a little girls sundress, the inside lining of
a coat, or a Womens casual scarf.
This weave is a plaid. I would use this fabric
for a womens wool shirt, a womens winter coat,
or the top part of a womens career shoe.
25
The womens collection was made using Kaledo
Style, Kaledo Print, and Kaledo Weave software.
The clothing line is targeted to women ages 20-35
who like to dance and be seen at the hottest
salsa dancing spots. They normally work or have
other activities during the day, but set aside
free time during the evening to unwind.
26
Academic WorkVisual Merchandising
  • This course consisted of learning the principles
    and practices of effective merchandise
    presentation and display including techniques,
    resources and evaluation.
  • The major project for this course was to create
three different types of display windows. The
first window was geared towards a cause that a
company supports, the second window was geared
towards a product, and the third window was
geared towards the atmosphere of a retail
    company.

The window design featured was created for the Go
Red Gap campaign. The pictures signify the
celebrities and clothing that help support the
cause. The wording is stating information about
the campaign, where to find more information, and
how someone can support the cause.
27
This course taught me how to work as a team, and
how to collaborate everyones ideas into one
cohesive idea. This course also taught me how to
transform my idea on paper into a visual idea.
This window was created for Old Navy. The theme
behind this window was that Old Navy can be your
one stop shop for career, out on the town, or
casual wear. We used large posters from Old Navy,
along with the words work, play, relax to
signify the overall theme. We also dressed three
mannequins in garments that corresponded with
each word.
28
Academic WorkFashion Merchandising
The overall objective for this course was to
introduce merchandising in regards to emphasizing
fashion as a process and product. The major
project for this course was trend forecasting for
Spring 2009. My group and I had five different
categories we had to forecast. The categories
included color, mood and spirit, silhouette,
fabrication, and details.
Mood Spirit For mood and spirit we choose
technology, health, and the environment for
spring 2009. Technology was picked because it is
evolving everyday and fashion is receiving the
most attention. Environment and health were
chosen because in the 1940s they were concern
about both of these topics just like we are now.
Majority of the time fashion coincides with what
people are into during that time.
29
Color The colors we forecasted for 2009 were
Earth, Golden Rod, Midnight Blue, Sea Foam Green,
and Dusty Pink. The group felt that these colors
reflect the 1940s because of the war, fabrics,
and inventions that took place during that time.
It also works for the 21-century because of the
information we found about what colors will be
popular by 2009.
30
Academic WorkIntroduction to Apparel Construction
  • This course consisted of learning the basics of
    apparel construction, function and fitting
    techniques of apparel.
  • In this course I learned how to read and
construct garments from patterns. I also learned
about different types of fabrics and how to
choose the best one for certain garments.

The garment featured is a pastel blue cotton
dress shirt. The shirt has a front 6-button
closure, long sleeves with two button cuff, and
banded collar.
31
Academic WorkAdvanced Apparel Construction
  • This course consisted of learning the advanced
    skills of apparel construction, function,
alterations and fitting techniques of apparel. In
this course I learned how to use a serger and
the different types of stitching that are used
with a serger. I also learned how to construct a
knit top by using the serger.

The major project for this course was a wool
jacket. The jacket was very complex. I learned
how to tailor a jacket along with how to work
with wool fabrics.
The garment featured is a wool jacket constructed
with a one button front closure, two front welt
pockets, a center back vent, and peak lapels.
The shirt underneath the jacket is the knit top
that I created with a serger.
32
Threads 2009
Threads is a fashion show that is ran by students
from the Apparel Merchandising major. The theme
for 2009 was Trend-fusion. My collection
consisted of four designs. The design concept was
to fuse fashion fabric with recycled/unconventiona
l materials.
The front of this garment was constructed with
red plaid fabric. The outline of the sweetheart
neckline was created with black duct tape.
The back of this garment was constructed with
black duct tape and red plaid fabric.
33
This garment was created with plaid fashion
fabric. The leggings were constructed from
Halloween material.
This garment was constructed with fused
interfacing, multi-colored plaid fabric, tissue
paper, and yellow duct tape.
34
The top of this garment was constructed with
shimmery plaid fabric. The bottom of the garment
was constructed with wired hangers, duct tape,
and tissue paper. The leggings were made out of a
knit material.
