  • For hips and haws,
  • Lo, shining flowers upon my window-pane
  • The silver pencil of the winter draws.
  • When all the snowy hill
  • And the bare woods are still
  • When snipes are silent in the frozen bogs, And
all the garden garth is whelmed in mire,
  • Lo, by the hearth, the laughter of the logs-
  • More fair than roses, lo, the flowers of fire!

Requiem

  • This be the verse you grave for me
  • Here he lies where he longed to be,
  • Home is the sailor, home from the sea,
  • And the hunter home from the hill.

Moral Emblems / Woodcuts
  • Poem V
  • Industrious pirate! see him sweepThe
lonely bosom of the deep,And daily the horizon
scanFrom Hatteras or Matapan.Be sure, before
that pirate's old,He will have made a pot of
gold,And will retire from all his laboursAnd be
respected by his neighbours. You also scan your
life's horizonFor all that you can clap your
    eyes on.
