Symptoms of the Disorder and Detection
  • Affects part of the brain. It controls thinking,
    emotion, and movement. Usually between the ages
    of 30 and 50. It develops over time.
  • Poor memory, depression and/or mood swings, lack
    of coordination, twitching or other uncontrolled
    movements, and difficulty walking, speaking,
    and/or swallowing.

  • When a women is pregnant you can take a sample of
    fluid from around the fetus or you can take a
    sample of fetal cells from the placenta.
  • When a baby is born, you can do some neurological
    and physical tests.

  • You can go to a genetic counselor and you can
    look at your heritage to see your chance of
    getting it.

  • 0 survival rate
  • No, you can not cure it, and you can not slow it
    down, but you can make it more comfortable.

Additional Health Problems
  • There are no treatments, but medicine and
    physical/speech therapy can make things more
    comfortable for normal lives.

  • Currently they are trying to figure out how it is
    started and to see if they can stop it before it
    happens.

Genetic Counseling
  • If one of you has the disease, then there is a
    50 chance that one of your children will have it
    too. It develops overtime and you can be tested
    before or after birth.
