Introduction

• European VMS Platform Chairman was requested by
  Centrico to discuss with EC means of developing
  VMS harmonisation
• The European Commission and WERDDERD
• both support the concept of the European VMS
  Platform Harmonisation Project
• are content to discuss resource requirements
• do not currently have direct budget line

VMS Expert Group Role

• Co-ordinating and steering role
• Composition 1 National VMS Expert plus
  Euro-Regional Project Representatives
• Ensure Expert Group priorities align with
  Euro-Regional work plans
• Monitoring and influencing work being undertaken
  by the Euro-Regional projects
• Reports to DERD/EC/Euro-regional projects
• Develop VMS priority actions and identify
  available resources
• Provide expert advice and assistance to projects
• Developing a prioritised work programme
• Provides a pan-European harmonisation forum

• Discussed and agreed details for a new section of
  the FIVE document on pictogram harmonisation
• Discussed issues related to GRIP and are
  circulating a new section of the FIVE document
• Reviewed and agreed the Platform harmonisation
  priorities

• Identify VMS work plans in National projects and
  Euro-regional projects
• Develop prioritised VMS harmonisation programme
  identifying resource requirements
• Make recommendations to DERD/EC/Euro-regional
  projects on harmonisation implementation based on
  existing resources.
• Seek agreement from key stakeholders by October
  2003
