Description of Project

• Target Group 700,000 youths entering the labour
  market each year.
• Rationale for Intervention (To reduced high rate
  of youth unemployment).
• Project Goals -Create an enabling environment for
  youth empowerment, and enhancement of employment
  opportunities and security.
• Project Design Principles (Policies review,
  youth training on labour skills and
  entreprenuership, National Youth week and Youth
  officers training.
• Project Duration (October 2002 October 2004)
• Project Inputs UNICEF, UNDP, ILO, UNESCO

Project Cycle

• Conceptualization Mobilising various
  organisations/institution to adopt YES Six Es to
  create job opportunities, promoting activities
  that absorb big manpower such as agriculture,
  mining and fishing, handcrafts, tourism, animal
  husbandry, poultry and entreprenuarship.
• Implementation The project is implemented in
  different parts in whole Tanzania Mainland and
  Zanzibar. Governments Institutions with support
  from UN agencies and International Organizations
  has developed youth projects, reviewed policies
  related youth, and provided good condition for
  employment creation. Promoting YES Campaign in
  whole country through Uhuru Torch Race.

What are the results?

• Numbers of persons reached by the activities?
• 110 District commissioners has received YES
  Framework of Action together with National
  Strategy of supporting youth at grassroots level.
  
• There is a good response from the community,
  youth groups and national leaders who are
  committed to support young people in creating
  sustainable livelihood by using 6Es as main
  guideline.
• Plan for the future To establish National Youth
  Council, building a strong capacity and youth
  sustainable livelihood. To reduce poverty among
  youths and fighting against HIV/AIDS.

Challenges and lessons learnt

• Economic problem - lack of capital and resources
  Lack of entrepreneurship skills among young
  people especially in rural.
• Social problem - Lack of education and
  information which create a gap between youths in
  urban and rural areas.
• New Knowledge - Working closely with NGOs and
  other diverse stakeholders. New ideas on
  specific youth needs as per location/youth groups
