2
What is Henna?
  • Henna is a small shrub made of leaves and twigs
that are ground into a fine powder.
  • It is mixed with water and applied to parts of
the body, mainly the hands and feet.
  • It leaves a temporary reddish-orange color.

3
Through the Years
  • Henna originated in the Middle East and India in
    the 12th century
  • Its main purposes were for traditional ceremonies
mainly weddings in which women would decorate
    themselves
  • Mehndi was also used for its natural healing
    properties

4
Applying Mehndi
  • Henna nowadays comes in
  • cones with a tiny hole at the
  • end.
  • Hold the cone like a pencil and
  • squeeze lightly as you draw your design.
  • Leave the moist paste on overnight
  • Be careful not to touch anything with the mehndi

5
  • The mehndi will soon harden
  • The next morning, rinse the mehndi off
  • A nice reddish-orange color will result
  • This will last for up to 3 weeks
