  • DEFINITIONS AND BASIC CHEMISTRY
  • Unmodified concrete is a mixture of Portland
    cement water inert filler (sand, stone,
    etc.).
  • Concrete curing is due to hydration, a chemical
    reaction between Portland cement and water.
  • Stoichiometric weight ratio of water/cement
    required for complete hydration is 0.28.
  • Additional water is always present to give
    fluidity, but later evaporates to leave voids
    (weak spots).
