Repairing a floating floor
  • Determine what side of the room the damage is on.

Tools needed for the job
  • Tape measure
  • Hammer
  • Pencil
  • Circular saw
  • Pry bar
  • Safety glasses
  • Level
  • Meter stick

Step 1
  • Removal
  • Move all furniture to the opposite side of the
    room

Step 2
  • Remove the trim on the side of the wall closest
    to the damaged flooring.

Step 3
  • Remove flooring to the damaged floor. It should
    just remove from the tongue of the other board.
  • If not you may have to cut it out.
  • Dont cut the tongue out of the board.
  • You will have to create a a groove for the
    replacement board to fit in.

Step 4
  • Take the circular saw and cut the piece of
    flooring to fit the pattern and size of damaged
    board.
  • You do not want to cut a very small piece to
    replace the damaged board.

Step 5
  • Install the rest of the flooring that was removed
  • You might have to put some adhesive on the
    boards.
  • Place the furniture back in the room.

  • There are many types of flooring to choose from.
  • With different types of advantages and down
    falls.
  • Make sure you have a level surface and a sub
    floor that is usually plywood. It is fastened
    down by usually screws or nails.

    up.

TO FIX FLOOR SQUEAKS
  • To fix squeaky flooring there are 4 things that
    will cause this to occur
  • Nails securing the sub floor have been pulled
    loose
  • Improper spacing which causes ends to rub
  • Floor boards may have been pulled loose
  • Boards may be twisted or warped

To fix the squeak
  • You may have to put screws in the sub flooring
  • Otherwise put shims under the sub floor and the
    joists
  • Apply glue to the top side of the floor joist
  • Metal or angled cleat may have to be nailed on
    the alongside the floor joists.

To fix a sagging floor
  • Tools needed
  • cement
  • basement post jack
  • steel post
  • With the jack raise the floor, and insert the
    wood post.
  • The post should rest on a pad of cement
  • The recommended size of cement should
  • 18in-25in deep
  • And about 24in pad
