1
Tigers On The Loose
2
The tiger is the largest of all cats. Its gold
coloring and black stripes allow the tiger to
blend in with its environment.
3
There are five kinds of tigers
Siberian tiger Found in eastern Russia,
northeastern China, and northern North Korea.
It is the largest tiger. Bengal tiger Found in
India. White tigers are a rare form of Bengal
tiger. Indochinese tiger Found in
Thailand. South China tiger - Found in central
and eastern China. Sumatran tiger Found in
Sumatra, an island in Indonesia. They are the
smallest tigers.
4
A tigers stripes help it to hide from its prey.
The Sumatran tiger has the most stripes, and the
Siberian tiger has the fewest. Tiger stripes are
like human fingerprints, no two tigers have the
same pattern of stripes. The head-body length
is about 4 ½ to 9 feet. The tail is 3 to 4 feet
long, about half of its body. Tigers use their
tails for balance when they run through fast
turns. A tiger can weigh between 250 to 500
pounds.
5
Adult tigers like to live alone, except for
mother tigers with cubs. This is because in the
forest, a single tiger can sneak up and surprise
prey better than a group of tigers.
6
A female tiger will have a litter of 2-3 cubs.
They live on their mothers milk for 6-8 weeks
before she begins taking them to kills to feed.
Young tigers leave their mother from a year and
a half to three years of age. A tigers life
span in the wild is about 10 to 15 years.
7
Tigers live in thick forests or areas with tall
grass to hide in and plenty of prey to eat.
Siberian tigers live where it is very cold. The
size of the territory ranges from 60 to 400
square miles, dependent on the amount of prey
there is to eat.
