Project Plan
  • The UCSD MATLAB version of the LabHEART model
(Puglisi and Bers, Am J Physiol, 2001), which
    calculates ionic currents, Ca-transients, and
    action potentials in epicardial, mid-myocardial,
and endocardial rabbit ventricular myocytes has
been found unstable at high frequencies over long
    periods of time
  • Use Nimrod/G to sweep over a range of frequencies
to identify instabilities in calcium transients
    and action potential calculations
  • Apply Nimrod/O to optimize the stability in the
maximum values of the calcium transient and
action potential data calculated from the
LabHEART model by sweeping through a range for
    each parameter

3
Cardiac Modeling Using LabHEART
  • Progress To Date
  • Linked the LabHEART model to Nimrod/G system and
    adjusted the LabHEART MATLAB code
  • Ran 1 minute Nimrod/G experiments at 1-10 hertz
    frequency in epicardial, mid-myocardial, and
    endocardial rabbit ventricular myocytes
  • Graphed calcium transient and action potential
and verified model stability for frequencies
    between 1-4 hertz
  • Identified instabilities in the model at
frequencies greater than 5 hertz in calcium
    transients and action potential calculations,
mainly in the mid myocardial cells
  • Future Goals
  • Continue running Nimrod/G experiments with the
    LabHEART model
  • Develop an efficient method connecting Nimrod/0
to the LabHEART MATLAB model to optimize the
stability in the maximum values of the calcium
    transients and action potential graphs
  • Program in MATLAB the necessary adjustments to
    use Nimrod/O
  • Starting at 5 hertz, determine the constants that
best stabilize the calcium transient and action
    potential calculations in the model
